Full-time, Permanent. 35 hour week (4 days working on site / 1 day study) (Apprenticeship role / 4 years / Manchester Metropolitan University (remote learning) - Laboratory Scientist (Chemical Science)). Salary breakdown: Year one - 110% of Apprentice Rate (currently £8.31 p.hr / £15,115 p.a.) Year two - 120% of Apprentice Rate (currently £9.06 p.hr / £16,489 p.a.) Year three - 130% of Apprentice Rate (currently £9.82 p.hr / £17,863 p.a.) Year four - 140% of Apprentice Rate (currently £10.57 p.hr / £19,237 p.a.) Job Summary/ Purpose: This is a key technical support role with the primary purpose to provide technician support to the Technical Department, which will support the development of new compounds and processes of the company - in order to provide a technical edge on a sound commercial basis, in line with business objectives and to help secure the future growth of the company. The Laboratory Technician has responsibility and accountability for support testing of products in all product sectors relating to but not limited to new product development, technical service to customers, and technical support to manufacturing. The sector encompasses PVC additives and PVC compounds. Main Responsibilities: Typical polymeric testing of products in the laboratory to specifications Assisting the compound development team with material development and production support tasks Providing test results reports Assisting with the control & purchasing of laboratory provisions Assisting with the maintenance of the library of test specifications Assisting with the management of service & calibration of test equipment Following and ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks Carry out risk assessments for laboratory activities Education, experience, language & physical requirements: Formal qualification in Science or Materials/Polymer Technology ('A' level equivalent or higher preferred) Self-motivated, a team-player and enthusiastic Must be well organised Must be able to liaise effectively with internal and external customers Good writing skills a pre-requisite, must be computer literate e.g. familiar with Microsoft Office programs A working knowledge of ISO9000 Quality Systems would be advantageous
