Biological Services provide facilities, services, and advice for all research scientists within King's College London who need to carry out research using animals. Such work is ethically reviewed, carefully regulated, and kept to a minimum within the overall objectives of advancing knowledge in biomedical research.
The Genome Editing and Embryology Core (GEEC) Facility was established by Biological Services in 2016. The goal of the facility is to provide state-of-the-art services for the research community here at King’s and beyond.
About the role
The post holder will provide essential laboratory-based support to the Genome Editing and Engineering Core (GEEC) Facility. This role focuses on maintaining custom CRISPR-edited cell culture projects and supporting the molecular biology laboratory. The individual will also contribute to the development and expansion of the facility’s services, ensuring high standards of operation and supporting cutting-edge research.
This role demands a proactive, detail-oriented individual with expertise in cell culture and molecular biology techniques. Key responsibilities will include following standard operating procedures (SOPs) in various cell culture techniques; assisting with gRNA extraction and standard PCR; maintaining systems for accurate record-keeping and adhering to any COSHH and risk assessment requirements and safe working practices.
This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
Minimum BSc in Biological Sciences (or equivalent)
Previous experience of work in a laboratory environment
Excellent practical and organisation skills to plan and prioritise work
Self-motivated, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight timelines
Experience of managing multiple tasks concurrently
Ability to deal with multiple competing demands
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Reliable and conscientious approach to duties
Desirable criteria
Previous experience of work in a laboratory environment
Knowledge of Molecular biology techniques such as PCR
Cell culture experience with good aseptic technique
