This post is for a LAS (ST3+) Senior Clinical Fellow to work in Geriatric Medicine based at Southport Hospital. This is a fixed-term, full-time post to cover a period of maternity leave until August 2025, offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated doctor to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Due to the short-term nature of the role/service demand, the successful candidate must hold full registration with the GMC and have existing right to live and work in the UK at the time of application. Candidates who are not GMC registered or do not hold existing right to live and work in the UK will not progress through the shortlisting stage.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work full-time and participate in a 1:13 on-call rota at Registrar level.

Clinical Responsibilities Participate in the initial assessment and management of patients (MDT) supervising more junior members of the team. Lead inpatient ward rounds to ensure the ongoing clinical management of patients is appropriate and support the discharge of patients to a place of safety in a timely manner. Participate in or lead the acute take, providing senior clinical decisions with the support of consultant clinicians. Contribute to the Medical Emergency Team and lead cardiac arrest calls. Contribute to GIM/medical specialty clinics. Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties. Advise junior trainees and ANPs about the management of patients. Develop skills in managing the ward to avoid unnecessary patient delays and maintain good clinical care for all patients. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC at the time of application MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification ALS Certification Completed Foundation Year Programme and/or equivalent medical qualification/experience Completed 2 years' experience in a medical specialty, post Foundation Programme or equivalent experience Completed or part-completed UK MRCP examinations or equivalent post-graduate examination Knowledge & Experience Essential Ability to demonstrate knowledge of your professional code of conduct Ability to demonstrate good clinical care Ability to work as part of a team Excellent interpersonal skills and caring attitude to patients Willingness to seek timely assistance from senior colleagues when appropriate Skills Essential Competent in history taking and examination skills Other Essential Excellent communications skills Excellent organisational and time management skills Exhibit leadership skills & be able to lead a clinical team Computer literate Demonstrated administration ability or responsibility, not necessarily medical Desirable Have experience of clinical audit, service improvement or research
