Essential Requirements: Registered Nurse (NMC) with extensive post-registration experience in oncology/haematology care. Advanced clinical knowledge and skills, including independent decision-making and autonomous practice. Proven experience in assessing, diagnosing, and managing oncology patients, particularly those undergoing SACT. Prescribing qualification (V300). Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and develop others.

Main duties of the job

The Royal Marsden Private Care has made significant investment in developing new ways of working for senior cancer nurses. This includes Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) in Private Patient Medical Day Units (PPMDU), Outpatients, and Clinical Assessment Units. The Royal Marsden Private Practice operates from two centres located in Chelsea and Sutton, has a Medical Day Unit at Kingston Hospital, and a new state-of-the-art private diagnostics and treatment centre in Cavendish Square.

The post holder is responsible for providing a comprehensive and high-quality cancer nursing service. They will lead the Advanced Nurse Practitioner team in providing advanced nursing support to patients with a variety of cancers, enhancing the patient experience of cancer treatment, ensuring continuity of care, and influencing patient pathways. Leadership qualities across the clinical aspects of an international service model will be required to ensure service excellence, which exceeds patient/customer expectations. They will act as a highly specialised role model and leader for all members of staff and play a major role in the continuous development of the services within Private Care, and as an active member of a range of quality/process improvement project groups.

Job responsibilities

For further information on this role, please see the attached detailed Job Description and Person Specification. Clinical and Professional Leadership Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT)

The ANP will undertake routine advanced physical assessment of patients, including assessing these patients prior to treatment using thorough history taking, clinical examination, arranging relevant investigations (e.g., blood tests, radiographs), and prescribing SACT and other supportive medications, and referring appropriate follow-up when necessary. Presenting and attending PPMDU Consultant rounds - Preparing SACT clinic and Outpatient lists in conjunction with the team. To provide support and advice to nursing, medical, and allied health professionals therapy staff in relation to the management of the SACT patient.

To provide support and advice to patients and their carers relating to their chemotherapy and any procedures.

To obtain informed consent from patients prior to starting their first chemotherapy cycle and ongoing cycles.

Take responsibility for organising, undertaking, and interpreting investigations as appropriate to ensure patients are fit as possible for treatment, where necessary discussing with Consultant.

Experience

Essential Sufficient post-registration nursing experience in Oncology to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job Experience in Clinical Management and leadership Excellent understanding and experience in the recognition and management of oncological emergencies. Current experience in managing the deteriorating oncology patient, including the safe transfer of patients Success in achieving substantial organisational change and implementing highly complex projects. Knowledge of the Acute Oncology Service and related DH guidelines. Good understanding of the clinical and non-clinical aspects of an International service model Experience of change initiatives within an operational and clinical team
