We are looking to strengthen our Clean Water project team with a Lead Commissioning Engineer, site based in Burham. A Lead Commissioning Engineer on water supply projects plays a pivotal role in ensuring that water treatment and distribution systems are installed, tested, and optimized to meet operational standards and regulatory requirements. This position is critical in transitioning a water supply project from construction to operational status, ensuring systems work safely, efficiently, and reliably before being handed over to operators. The Lead Engineer should lead a team of Commissioning Engineers to ensure that each project milestone is successfully achieved. Key Responsibilities:

Review and develop CMDP commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures tailored to the specific requirements of water supply systems, integrating package plant, pumping stations, process streams, and bespoke treatment solutions. Provide consultation into resourcing requirements and provide knowledge into the organisational structure of the team. Coordinate with project teams, including design, construction, and operational teams, to ensure a smooth transition through the commissioning phases. Review design deliverables, including FDS, equipment and instrument lists, P&IDs, control philosophy, and telemetry requirements. Define commissioning milestones and manage timelines to align with the overall project schedule. Lead the inspection and verification of equipment and systems to confirm that they are installed according to Statutory Requirements, design specifications, MED’s, WIME’s, and manufacturer guidelines. Conduct and oversee testing procedures for various systems, such as pressure testing, functional tests, and performance assessments for pumps, valves, control systems, and treatment units. Oversee the sign off FAT and SAT, and process witness tests. Conduct visual routine works site checks including security, safety, and housekeeping; report hazards and/or take appropriate action to resolve. Monitor water processes using process control equipment such as SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system), to identify issues and trends. Respond to process alarms generated via telemetry (problem notification); identify the issue remotely or on site, rectify issue or escalate. Identify and report asset faults; use the escalation process to report any issues and concerns. Monitor trends and respond with remedial action; use the escalation process to report any issues and concerns. Engage with internal and external customers such as contractors, regulators, and colleagues visiting the site. Apply hygiene procedures and Energy and Utilities Skills Register (EUSR) standards to clean water operations. Prepare data and reports to present during meetings, collating information in line with the SW Commissioning and Testing Standards manual. Maintain a high level of communication with SW Operators and Site owners. Assist with the development, planning, and delivery of SCO’s (Safe Control of Operations). Assist with the delivery and execution of the client requirements in the Projects WQRA (Water Quality Risk Assessment). Provide updates for the Site Operating Manual and assist O&M Coordinators in the compilation and review of O&M Manuals. Ensure that commissioning activities comply with industry standards, environmental regulations, and local authority guidelines. Develop and maintain commissioning documentation and records to demonstrate compliance and quality assurance throughout the commissioning process. Liaise with regulatory authorities and other stakeholders as necessary to obtain approvals or inspections. Attend / Chair Progress & Commissioning Meetings providing suitable presentations. Distribute Commissioning Log / Daily Diary’s and any other information from Engineers. Assist with the career development of any Apprentice, Trainee or Assistant commissioning Engineers. Work with the digital creations team to ensure the Commissioning approach can be visualised. Organise and prioritise work. Programme Management. Ability to plan, manage, and coordinate commissioning tasks within a larger project framework team. Identify risks and control measures. Follow health and safety and environmental legislation, regulations, and practice. For example, apply control measures, wear PPE, harness, gas detector and breathing apparatus required for the task. Read and interpret information/data. Identify trends. Apply fault finding techniques. Proven Electrical/ICA commissioning experience. Determine action and follow procedure. Select and use tools and equipment; check/calibrate equipment. Use technology. Record information/complete documentation in accordance with CMDP and SW Commissioning and Standards Manual.
