We rely on our colleagues and teams to identify how this can be done, with this in mind we are recruiting an experienced Design Engineer to join our design team in Burton on Trent What's the mission? Reporting to the Head of Operational Support, your main responsibilities will be: Working on design briefs issued by the Roofing Systems Director, Operational Support Manager, and the Ideation Group and progressing these to fully detailed models in 3D format using SolidWorks, to finished items with full technical specification. Evaluating performance of new designs and compliance with manufacturing requirements, Standards and fitness for purpose. Produce designs and drawings for machinery and roof tile pallets for the production and engineering departments Conversion of Design Ideas (Innovations) for roof tile products and accessories to create customer focussed improved products including ease of use, aesthetics etc. Improving existing product designs through optimisation using FEA and other modelling tools to reduce material consumption, improve performance and ease of production. Working with contractors and suppliers to create new cost-effective designs using different materials and production methods. Assist during application testing of new products in live situation or ‘test conditions’ as appropriate Perform installation trials on own and competitors’ products using various rigs and laboratory equipment to draw insights and generate improvements on our own designs Assist various departments on technical queries related to our products and drawings Maintain and update the drawing/component database on a regular basis. What are the mission critical skills? Product design, technology or engineering qualification Expert knowledge of CAD software with an ability to design in both 2D and 3D using the mainstream software packages SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Experience of SolidWorks simulation software (FEA) would be beneficial SolidWorks Training certificates gained including CSWP & CSWE A systematic approach to take innovation ideas and convert them to practical industrial solutions. Enthusiastic and keen to challenge industry convention with strong problem-solving skills. Good practical skills and understanding of manufacturing processes and construction methods. Content to be both the sole worker on a project but also able to work well within a team environment. A fluent report writer and presenter who can quickly summarise key points with the aid of clear summaries and diagrams. Appreciation of business demands and critical timescales.  A full UK manual driving license with willingness to occasionally travel within the UK What’s next?
