POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a Lead Engineer – Powertrain to take ownership of system architecture, technical specifications, and approvals for Diesel, EV, and Hybrid systems. The role involves leading powertrain electrification development, managing engineering deliverables, and collaborating with suppliers to drive innovation. Key requirements include expertise in system integration, validation of electric powertrain components, DFMEA, ISO26262 standards, and vehicle testing. Strong communication, supplier collaboration, and experience in low-volume vehicles or off-highway applications are essential. This role is critical for delivering high-quality, compliant solutions aligned with company objectives. WHAT YOU WILL DO: Live and role model the company Values and culture at all times. Creation of system architecture proposals Ownership of approvals for Diesel Engine, EV and Hybrid systems Creation of technical specifications Manages resources/work packages Drive commonality across vehicle types/variants Develop and maintain a level of expertise within powertrain electrification Assist in planning of skills and facility requirements required to support the business needs Assist in planning and supervision of engineering projects Evaluation of Powertrain Systems. Supplier collaboration with new and emerging technologies. Provide clear technical input to engineering areas such as Electrical, Software and Mechanical in respect to Hybrid and EV integration requirements. Support the development of the Electrical and Electronic architectures. Validation/sign-off of the Hybrid/EV systems and the associated interactions with other subsystems. Support vehicle integration design reviews and supporting Hybrid/EV electrical systems design reviews. Drive work packages to meet supplier approvals. Reliability ownership to ensure lessons are learnt and problems are not repeated in new projects. Define Engineering standards, ‘Best Practice’, technical specifications. Work to and improve agreed business processes, systems, and standards to ensure efficient, predictable, and repeatable outcomes. Rationalize parts and designs across products. Provide technical support for In Service vehicle issues. Work closely with Test & Development Engineers. Contribute positively to the Departmental activities and objectives. Deliver supplier approvals. Responsible for design requirements capture, planning and execution of DFMEAs and design reviews and any subsequent actions through to completion and sign-off. Record and manage engineering risks and mitigating actions. Escalate critical risks to the relevant owning Principal Engineer (technical) or Product Engineering Manager (delivery) as appropriate. Ensure common system designs, interfaces and principles are applied consistently across all systems, platforms, and territories. Lead the support of New Product Introduction at all build sites and manage build issues through to closure. Work in accordance with the Engineering Product Development process and demonstrate compliance with the deliverables through design records and documentation. Prepare and present technical documentation and papers for review and communication with key stakeholders. Lead the definition of and compliance with relevant internal and international standards, best practice, and legislation. Responsible for ensuring that design guides, certification requirements and vehicle compliance are defined and fulfilled. Act as the key contact for arranging and coordinating activities with internal and external design partners or suppliers to achieve quality, cost and delivery targets for each project. Responsible for the assessment, planning and design brief creation for each new project. WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: 4+ years in engineering 2+ in specified field Knowledge of Diesel engine integration and high voltage systems. Knowledge of Electric Powertrain components such as drive motors and controllers Understanding of Vehicle performance requirements. DFMEA – user and creator. Knowledge and understanding of Safety Critical Systems (ISO26262) and hazard analysis. Proven experience in requirements capture. Engineering management of deliverables – application Knowledge of bus engineering. Knowledge of Can control systems an advantage Knowledge of low volume truck/Off highway or vehicles Experience of vehicle testing/development beneficial.
