Gatwick Airport

Being a Lead Construction Logistics Manager at London Gatwick, you are contributing to the development of the UK's second largest airport. Working in a fast-paced, live environment, you will have the chance to make a lasting impact, enhancing the efficiency and success of our projects.

In this brand-new role, you'll have the unique opportunity to build the construction logistics function from the ground up, defining strategies and processes that align with our ambitious growth plans.

Working in close collaboration with senior leaders, you'll develop and implement a comprehensive construction logistics strategy for London Gatwick, ensuring that every element of our construction logistics and supply chain operation supports the complex demands of our large and diverse portfolio of projects.

This role is pivotal to our long-term vision, supporting a potential multi-billion-pound capital investment over the next decade.

As we continue to expand, your expertise and leadership will be critical in ensuring we maintain our momentum and efficiency, driving operational excellence across the Construction division.

If you're a strategic thinker with expertise in construction logistics, and you're ready to bring your skills to a challenging, multifaceted environment, we'd love to hear from you!

The role

Reporting to the Head of PMO, you will lead the development, implementation and ongoing management of London Gatwick's Construction Logistics Strategy to enable safe, efficient and timely delivery of centralised Construction Logistics across all our projects, playing a key role in the transition from a Contractor-led model to a Client-led model, all whilst minimising the impact to the Airport's daily operations.

Other duties include:

  • Leading the tender, evaluation, selection and management of a 3rd party Construction Logistics Partner
  • Ensuring a seamless transition from Contractor-led to Client-led model with no impact to live or developing projects, and integration with key stakeholders such as Security, the Contractor Support Centre, and Gatwick's Framework Contractors
  • Leading the ongoing delivery of logistics services by the Construction Logistics Provider, implementing measures to mitigate risks associated with logistics, ensuring all safety protocols are adhered to
  • Driving the adoption of new logistics technologies and techniques, including advanced software and hardware solutions, to improve logistical efficiency and reduce environmental impact across projects

What are we looking for?

The live environment at Gatwick requires all our teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, with exceptional problem solving skills and an ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

As well as an in-depth knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations within the Construction industry, this role requires:

  • Previous experience as a senior construction logistics manager or equivalent, on complex multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects/portfolios or multi-year programmes of engineering works with a value typically in excess of £100m per annum
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and managing logistics strategies across multiple projects and contractors, including managing 3PL providers on complex infrastructure projects
  • Experience managing construction logistics in a live operational environment, coordinating multiple stakeholders
  • Extensive knowledge of the UK Construction Supply Chain, and in particular logistics providers
  • CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card

Benefits

Our employees tell us that working here is something special and no day is like another; Where our teams do something everyday other airports only dream of. Along with a competitive salary our employees enjoy a range of personal, health and financial benefits, including:

  • 5% Welcome Bonus
  • Performance-based bonus scheme
  • High street shops and restaurant discounts
  • Healthcare scheme
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Professional training to develop
  • Discounted travel
  • Volunteer days
