Lead Mechanical Engineer

based out of our Global Production Facility in Dumbarton. In this role, you will be the technical lead for the delivery of new product developments and significant platform upgrades for Aggreko manufactured products. Responsible for the co-ordination and assignment of technical tasks to the assigned engineering resources to meet the deliverables of product specifications within the time, quality, and cost targets. What you’ll do: Lead and provide design input, as a professional engineer, for the development of new and existing products to improve their performance, operating efficiency, ease of manufacture, total cost of ownership, maintainability, reliability, control, packaging or environmental qualities, or to extend the product range. Agree general approach, priorities and milestones with Product Engineering Managers. Plan and drive each task/project to complete to specification and on time. Define the system test and validation requirements for new product developments with input from assigned engineering resources. Approve test results from development test for new product developments engaging subject matter expertise in matters of legislative compliance. Work with key suppliers to ensure that the best use is made of available technologies/components. Select components, taking into account their technical specification and the cost of ownership over the full product lifecycle. Accountable for the creation and release of accurate Bill of Material and part specifications for efficient supply and assembly of design products. Facilitate and lead design reviews of assigned product developments. Design novel and market-leading conceptual arrangements that provide product differentiation in the industry conforming to the defined specification as laid out by the Product Engineering Managers. You’ll have the following skills and experience: Degree in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience in design of industrial machines. Formal training in product development and design. Chartered Engineer preferred. Fully qualified, seasoned professional engineer who has sufficient expertise to resolve a variety of issues/problems and to make the best commercial use of available technologies and components. Experience in leading design and development of gas or diesel reciprocating powered generator packages along with the associated applicable safety standards. Brings real-world experience to design, constantly exploring alternative solutions that enhance the performance of designs. Experience of a design/development role in a commercially demanding manufacturing environment. A firm grasp of design processes including computer-aided engineering. Experience of leading small focused design teams with a positive outlook and enthusiasm. Ability to work to tight timescales, under pressure, whilst maintaining the correct level of quality. Ability to balance the needs of reliability, maintainability, and efficient performance within the commercial and packaging constraints. Highly proficient in computer-aided 3D modelling, calculation and simulation to improve design capability including thermal calculation, 1D flow analysis, FEA, and CFD.
