Lead Nurse (Specialist Palliative Care / End of Life Care)

This role will be part of the Growing the Community and Friarage collaborative team working in close collaboration with the Head of Nursing, Head of Professions, Clinical Director and Service Manager. The post holder will be responsible for providing leadership and management to clinical teams within the trust wide specialist palliative care service. The role involves providing assurance of safety, quality and patient outcomes. You will manage 3 arms of specialist palliative care service, these are located in Hambleton and Richmondshire, James Cook University Hospital and also Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland. The post holder will also take on the role of lead nurse for end of life care for the trust. Providing excellent clinical leadership to wards and departments, working with patients and staff, evaluating existing services and providing innovative and novel models of care, and working closely with the nurse consultant for specialist palliative care and the lead nurse for cancer and palliative care. Within their area of responsibility the lead nurse for specialist palliative care will ensure that a culture of cost consciousness exists and expenditure is in line with budget and associated agreed efficiency targets. Main duties of the job

The role will provide support, expert professional advice, information, coaching, supervision, education and leadership to other staff within their area as well as within the wider multidisciplinary teams. They will create, develop and foster links locally, nationally, and will work closely with the Head of Nursing, Head of Professions, Clinical Director, Service Manager and local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) Future ICS's and other relevant groups to interpret, lead and implement policies. Getting it right first time, the post holder will provide and support the delivery of effective care and compassion to all patients and carers within their remit and will role model these at all times to others abiding by the NHS values and constitution and ensuring standards are maintained. The post holder will play an active role in facilitating others in the contribution to the organisations Nursing Midwifery and Allied Health Professions (NMAHP) strategy and/or by mentorship of colleagues. They will demonstrate leadership, mentoring and project management skills. You will provide operational management, service development and people management for the trust wide specialist palliative care service and will work across collaboratives to provide a streamlined service with delegated responsibility from the service manager for day to day operational remit. Must have access to a vehicle for work purposes to meet the requirements of the role. About us

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Management and clinical skills with well-developed leadership, influencing skills and the ability to engage, influence and motivate Knowledge and a proven track record of recent operational and clinical nursing/midwifery management and the ability to be intellectually flexible and to look beyond existing structures and ways of working Knowledge and demonstrable capability of service improvements, strategies for infection control and transformational leadership To have a working knowledge in relation to the national ambitions for end of life care, end of life strategy and CQC requirements QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

First level registered nurse/midwife Evidence of delivering education Independent prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake First Degree in in a relevant subject Cancer/Palliative care related module A Masters level Degree or evidence of Study at Masters level and/or equivalent demonstrable experience. EXPERIENCE

Significant post-registration experience, with substantial experience working in cancer and/or specialist palliative care; or working within a speciality with a significant element of palliative care, at a senior level' Evidence and experience of relevant continuing professional development and developing clinical practice Evidence of expert practitioner skills in field of cancer and palliative care. Evidence and experience of positive leadership skills and the ability to transform and lead a team to work effectively together.
