Based at The Redwoods Centre in Shrewsbury, you will lead the team of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Support workers. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Pharmacy team at Redwoods.

You will also be responsible for the Clinical Services provided by the Pharmacy Technicians and support staff across our 3 Hospital Sites. You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and support the development of our clinical services.

In addition, you will be supported to undertake the Mental Health Therapeutics PgCert at Aston University.

The Trust provides both Mental and Physical Health services, and you will be provided with a wide range of opportunities to learn and develop, including opportunities for further learning in clinical and managerial skills.

You will work collaboratively with the dispensary managers at both ST Georges and Haywood Hospitals to promote a safe and effective service and be supported by the Chief Pharmacy Technician.

The successful candidate will be fully supported to develop your leadership and management skills. We encourage and support our team to complete the PRINCE 2 training.

Main duties of the job

To support the development of clinical technician pharmacy services for the MPFT Pharmacy Department in conjunction with the Chief Technicians.

To ensure a prompt, efficient and accurate Medicine Optimisation service on wards.

To co-ordinate the provision of a technical patient-focused service.

To plan and organise ward-based workflow ensuring the most appropriate use of technical skill mix available.

To lead the local dispensary team in providing a range of pharmacy medicines supply and advice services, ensuring compliance with all legislation relating to medicines supply services, in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

To work collaboratively with other Dispensary Managers to promote a safe and effective service.

To perform the role of an experienced, registered pharmacy technician including the provision of advice, supervision, and mentoring with staff members under their direct line management (all technical staff).

To contribute to the review of dispensary services, to improve efficiency and establish greater integration with Trust services.

To manage technicians providing support to one-stop dispensing services (self-medicating schemes).

Developing key performance indicators for feedback to the senior pharmacy team on efficiencies in procurement.

To embrace the Trust values and act as a positive role model for other members of the pharmacy team. To support the operational delivery of the clozapine service and to liaise with stakeholders as needed.

Supporting Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians training and support for Foundation Year Pharmacist training.

To perform the role of an experienced, registered pharmacy technician including the provision of advice, supervision, and mentoring with staff members under their direct line management.

To provide support/cover for other Lead Pharmacy Technicians in the event of unplanned absences.

To manage the hospital services by providing direction to all grades of staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy support workers, student technicians, and pre-registration pharmacists/technicians whilst they are assigned to the dispensary.

To contribute to the review of dispensary services, to improve efficiency and establish greater integration with Trust services.

To support the training and assessment of staff within dispensary services.

To manage Pharmacy Technicians providing support to one-stop dispensing services where applicable.

To oversee the management of all technical dispensary staff.

To develop clinical technician pharmacy services for the MPFT Pharmacy Department in conjunction with the Chief Technician Hospital services and the Chief Technician for Community services.

To ensure a prompt, efficient, and accurate Medicine Optimisation service on wards.

To co-ordinate the provision of a technical patient-focused service.

To plan and organise ward-based workflow ensuring the most appropriate use of technical skill mix available.

To provide assurance that the Royal Pharmaceutical Society for hospital pharmacy standards are adhered to.

Comply with the standing financial instructions for all financial activity undertaken within the pharmacy.

Authorised signatory for the department for invoicing, off contract claims, credits, travel expenses, and easy.

Working with lead clinical pharmacist, hospital pharmacists to develop clinical services including: patient counselling, self-administration, medicines reconciliation, and discharge planning.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures for specialist area to degree or equivalent level acquired through training, NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent Nationally recognised accredited checking technician certificate. Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Experience

Essential

Working as a registered Pharmacy Technician in the UK. Hospital Pharmacy experience Experience in managing pharmacy technicians and support staff. Experience of mental health or physical health hospital pharmacy service delivery.

Desirable

Experience in dealing with discipline and performance management Experience in dealing with short- and long-term staff sickness Experience in service development and implementation of new policies/services Experience in leading project management
