Based at St Georges Hospital in Stafford, you will lead the team of Procurement Technicians and Pharmacy Support workers who are part of our wider Procurement team at both Redwoods Centre Shrewsbury and at Haywood Hospital in Stoke. You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and be responsible for the development of our procurement services. You will also be responsible for leading, supporting and developing the dispensary team at St Georges Hospital. The successful candidate will be fully supported to develop your leadership and management skills. We encourage and support our team to complete the PRINCE 2 training. In addition, you will be supported to undertake the Mental Health Therapeutics PgCert at Aston University. The Trust provides both Mental and Physical Health services, and you will be provided with a wide range of opportunities to learn and develop, including opportunities for further learning in clinical and managerial skills. Carrying out Accuracy Checking is a part of the role, and if you do not already hold this award, we will support the right candidate in achieving this. You will work collaboratively with the dispensary managers at both Redwoods Centre and Haywood Hospital to promote a safe and effective service and be supported by the Chief Pharmacy Technician. Main duties of the job

To provide technical leadership on procurement in collaboration with the procurement team (Technicians and Pharmacist) across all sites. Day to day management and leadership of the dispensary staff at St Georges Hospital. Effectively communicate with pharmaceutical wholesalers, manufacturers, homecare companies and external agencies ensuring efficient and cost-effective procurement and supply of medicines. Communicate with pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals and external customers on wide range of queries relating to procurement of medicines and homecare including changes to contracts; availability and cost of medicines (including controlled drugs, unlicensed medicines and specials); and supply issues or delays. To perform the role of an experienced, registered, pharmacy technician including the provision of advice, supervision, mentoring with staff members under their direct line management (all technical staff). Attend and participate in regional pharmacy procurement meetings and adjudication meetings regarding the tendering of medicines and services. To lead the local dispensary team in providing a range of pharmacy medicines supply and advice services, ensuring compliance with all legislation relating to medicines supply services. About us

To provide technical leadership on procurement in collaboration with the procurement team (Technicians and Pharmacist) across all sites to ensure cost effective procurement of medicine and minimising impact on patient (inpatient and outpatient) due to stock shortages. The post holder will lead on reporting of key performance indicators for procurement which will be to the Chief Technician on a quarterly basis. Management of the procurement services for the MPFT Pharmacy, to ensure a prompt, efficient and accurate supply service (e.g. Purchase orders, budgetary expenditures and deliveries). To work in conjunction with the Business Intelligence Technician in support of contracts and bids. Effectively communicate with pharmaceutical wholesalers, manufacturers, homecare companies and external agencies e.g. CMU, regarding the safe, efficient and cost-effective procurement and supply of medicines. Communicate with pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals and external customers on wide range of queries relating to procurement of medicines and homecare including changes to contracts; availability and cost of medicines (including controlled drugs, unlicensed medicines and specials); and supply issues or delays. Attend and participate in regional pharmacy procurement meetings and adjudication meetings regarding the tendering of medicines and services. To lead the local dispensary team in providing a range of pharmacy medicines supply and advice services, ensuring compliance with all legislation relating to medicines supply services. To work collaboratively with other Dispensary Managers to promote a safe and effective service. To perform the role of an experienced, registered, pharmacy technician including the provision of advice, supervision, mentoring with staff members under their direct line management (all technical staff). To manage the dispensary services by providing direction to all grades of staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, assistant technical officers, student technicians and pre-registration pharmacists/technicians whilst they are assigned to the dispensary. To contribute to the review of dispensary services, to improve efficiency and establish greater integration with Trust services. To support the training and assessment of staff within dispensary services. To manage technicians providing support to one stop dispensing services (self-medicating schemes). To oversee the management of all technical dispensary staff. Person Specification

Qualifications

Knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures for specialist area to degree or equivalent level acquired through training, NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent Nationally recognised accredited checking technician qualification Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Prince 2 or Project Management Qualification Experience

Working as a registered Pharmacy Technician in the UK. Hospital Pharmacy experience Experience in managing pharmacy technicians and support staff. Experience of mental health or physical health hospital pharmacy service delivery. Experience of Procurement Services Experience in dealing with discipline and performance management Experience in dealing with short- and long-term staff sickness Experience in service development and implementation of new policies/services Experience in leading project management Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Able to work as part of a team Supervisory skills Ability to travel across Trust sites Ability to work in a busy environment to deadlines Keyboard & data handling skills: Microsoft and internet usage Ability to prioritise work within dispensary services Knowledge of Hospital Procurement Services Accurately record all issues, updating the patient records Use of an online system in the management of leave requests Experience of dealing with Drug Shortages & Supply Issues Experience of Procurement & Distribution Services Personal Attributes
