Lead Power Systems Engineer

THE TEAM At JSM Group, we play a vital role in delivering substation and cabling projects at both distribution and transmission levels, many of which contribute to the UK’s decarbonisation targets. We are looking for a Lead Power Systems Engineer to drive technical excellence, mentor team members, and ensure high-quality engineering solutions across our projects. SCOPE OF ROLE As a Lead Power Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers, ensuring the successful design, development, and delivery of substation projects. You will act as the technical authority, overseeing power system studies, compliance reports, and risk mitigation strategies to meet client and regulatory requirements. This role requires occasional travel to JSM offices and client locations, with the potential for overnight stays. HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED Leading and mentoring a team of engineers, fostering growth and development Acting as the technical authority on power system studies, including G99, P28/P29, short circuit, load flow, protection grading, G5 harmonics, earthing, and reactive power provisions Managing project budgets to ensure cost-effective design delivery Developing standardised design solutions and enhancing technical documentation Conducting compliance studies for Transmission and Distribution networks Ensuring quality assurance across internal and third-party technical outputs Identifying and onboarding third-party service providers to support project delivery Maintaining a technical library and developing structured training programs WHAT IT TAKES Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (or working towards it) Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP, PSCAD, CDEGS, and Digsilent In-depth knowledge of CDM regulations and substation protection standards (ANSI & IEC) Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams of engineers Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Excellent communication and report-writing abilities WHAT WE OFFER YOU Private Pension Scheme Health cash-plan Discount and cashback scheme Discounted Gym Scheme Long Service Award Retail Discount Scheme Employee Assistance Programme JSM GROUP JSM Group Services Ltd. is a leading provider of integrated utility infrastructure solutions.
