As soon as possible or Easter 2025 About the Role: Edgar Wood Academy is seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Practitioner of Mathematics to join our dynamic team. This is an exceptional opportunity to play a pivotal role in raising standards of student attainment and teaching quality within the Mathematics Department. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to delivering high-quality teaching and be passionate about supporting students to achieve their fullest potential. Key Focus: Support the Subject Leader in maximising students’ academic development by taking responsibility for interventions. Drive high standards of teaching and learning across the department through leadership, strategic planning, and data analysis. Primary Purpose: Help students realise their academic potential through an unrelenting focus on quality teaching and student support. Foster a "can-do" culture that motivates and inspires students to aim high and achieve their goals. Embrace flexibility and contribute to the school’s growth and overall development. Key Responsibilities: Accountability to the Headteacher Demonstrate effective leadership within the subject area. Keep the Headteacher informed of all issues concerning the Maths Department via the line manager. Leadership and Management of Staff Support the Head of Department (HOD) and Second in Department in developing subject knowledge. Assist in identifying and addressing CPD needs within the department. Support with interpreting data and planning strategic interventions for student progress. Leadership of Learning and Teaching Enhance and contribute to the development of formative and summative assessments. Support the moderation and standardisation of assessments. Assist in organising interventions and coordinating department trips and visits. Promote outstanding practice and ensure the department is up to date with national teaching developments. Welfare of Students Foster high expectations and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom culture. Collaborate with the Pastoral Team to support student well-being and remove barriers to learning. Monitoring, Assessment, and Reporting Be accountable for tracking and improving student progress and achievement. Ensure assessment and feedback align with school policies and support student development. Provide regular updates on student progress through reports and parent meetings. Operational/Strategic Planning Collaborate with the Subject Leader to support curriculum development and the transition from KS2 to KS3.
