WHAT TO EXPECT

At JLR, the Charging System Design team within Powertrain is seeking an experienced, inquisitive, and technically adept Quality Engineer to drive continuous improvement in our Charging System capabilities. This is your opportunity to apply your world-class problem-solving skills in a high-impact role that directly contributes to the reliability, robustness, and overall customer satisfaction of our vehicles.

As a Lead Quality Engineer in the Electric Power Control Chapter, you will be the single point of contact for all Quality activities related to the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Charging Systems for the current model year. You will lead and manage complex Quality Management projects within the HV Charging System, providing technical expertise to ensure the highest standards of performance. Your responsibilities will include reporting monthly on the Quality status of Charging Systems, performing detailed technical analyses of customer issues using advanced diagnostic tools, and leading cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve system-level issues.

In this role, you will also guide the engineering problem-solving process to establish root causes, support the 8D problem-solving methodology, and drive consistent approaches to tools, analysis techniques, and reporting within the commodity quality team. Additionally, you will oversee the management of Prevent Recurrence AIMS for BEV and PHEV, playing a pivotal role in delivering effective technical assistance to solve complex customer issues.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Technical skills: Good understanding of HV Charging System architecture, operation, and standards/protocols. Understanding and awareness of other relevant vehicle systems such as HV Systems, HV System Control, Thermal Systems, BMS, Battery, Power Electronics, etc. Good knowledge of relevant standards (IEC 61851, SAE J1772, ISO 15118, NACS, DIN 70121, ISO 26262) and safety regulations for HV Charging. Experience in Failure Mode Avoidance techniques including FMEA for identifying potential failures and preventive actions. Skills in analysing data to identify trends and root-cause of issues. Skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting HV/Charging Systems.

Quality Skills: Knowledge of IATF 16949, or equivalent quality standards. Proficiency in tools like 5 Why’s, Ishikawa diagrams, 8D, and other problem-solving techniques. Ability to create detailed quality reports, procedures, and documentation. Experience in conducting internal audits, inspections, and assessments to ensure compliance. Skills in Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies for continuous improvement.

Tools Experience: Expert user of TRM, DOORS, RMDV, MSOSA, X-RAY, JIRA, Reliasoft.
