Lead Rocky Linux Engineer

to play a pivotal role in building, maintaining, and optimizing Linux-based infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Rocky Linux, strong Linux administration skills, and expertise in creating custom Linux images using Packer. This role requires a deep understanding of Linux OS management for both virtual and bare-metal servers. Key Responsibilities:

Rocky Linux Management:

Install, configure, and maintain Rocky Linux operating systems in virtual and bare-metal environments. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the operating system and associated software.

Image Creation and Automation:

Design and build base and customized Rocky Linux images using

Packer . Automate image creation pipelines and integrate them into CI/CD workflows. Ensure images are optimized, secure, and up-to-date with the latest patches.

Linux Administration:

Perform day-to-day Linux systems administration, including monitoring, patching, and performance tuning. Manage storage, networking, and security configurations for Linux servers. Write and maintain scripts (e.g., Bash, Python) to automate routine tasks and improve system efficiency.

Bare-Metal Server Management:

Deploy and manage Rocky Linux on bare-metal servers. Oversee the lifecycle of bare-metal infrastructure, including provisioning, configuration, and decommissioning. Implement hardware-level diagnostics and collaborate with vendors for hardware support when necessary.

Security and Compliance:

Apply security hardening best practices to Rocky Linux systems. Ensure compliance with organizational and industry standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, HIPAA). Monitor systems for vulnerabilities and implement timely patches.

Documentation and Collaboration:

Create and maintain detailed documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and troubleshooting guides. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Rocky Linux systems into larger infrastructure projects.

Required Skills and Experience:

Proven hands-on experience with

Rocky Linux

or other RHEL-based Linux distributions. Strong background in

Linux administration , including troubleshooting, performance optimization, and scripting. Proficiency in using

Packer

to create and manage Linux images. Experience in managing Linux OS for

bare-metal servers , including provisioning and maintenance. Knowledge of networking, storage, and security concepts as they apply to Linux systems. Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices, such as CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (IaC). Preferred Skills:

Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet. Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and their integration with Rocky Linux. Understanding of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes. Knowledge of hardware diagnostics and RAID configurations for bare-metal servers.
