Sense Education is seeking a compassionate and proactive Learning and Behaviour Mentor to work within an EYFS setting, supporting young children with additional needs who may display challenging behaviours. In this rewarding role, you’ll assist children in managing their behaviour, teaching coping strategies, and encouraging early communication skills using tools like PECS and Makaton. As a Learning and Behaviour Mentor you’ll play a vital role in fostering independence and supporting their early developmental milestones. Some personal care duties may be required. Key Qualities of the Ideal Candidate:

Behaviour Management:

Experience in managing challenging behaviours, particularly in early years or care settings. Communication Skills:

Familiarity with PECS and Makaton is ideal (training available if required). Personal Attributes:

Patient, nurturing, and empathetic, with an understanding that all behaviours communicate a need. Collaboration:

Willing to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and early developmental goals. Record-Keeping:

Able to monitor and accurately record progress in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. About the Setting:

A purpose-built, inclusive EYFS setting designed to meet the unique needs of young children with SEND. Features include sensory rooms, outdoor learning areas, and accessible facilities to support holistic development. Focused on creating a safe, stimulating, and child-centered environment to encourage learning and growth. Hours and Start Date:

Full-time hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Immediate start available (part-time applications will be considered). Why Join Sense Education?

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
