Milton Keynes College has a new vacancy for a Learning and Development Adviser to join the education team based at HMP Fosse Way. The role is 33 hours per week – working Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri 8.10 – 16.40 each day, and 13:30-16:30 on Wednesdays. The role is 100% working on site at the prison. The Learning and Development Advisers will act as advocates for prisoners, providing initial and focused information, advice, and guidance in an impartial manner on all opportunities available to them, within HMP Fosse Way and beyond the gate into the community. You will support prisoners to develop and review their employment and personal goals throughout their learning, skills, and work journey. As a Learning and Development Adviser, you will be responsible for supporting prisoners to ensure they have a structured pathway of education, training, and employment during their stay in custody. Effectively managing prisoner caseloads to support prisoners in achieving sustainable employment, training, and continued education goals upon release, contributing to prison employment outcomes and reducing the risk of re-offending. The support you provide will reflect individuals' needs and circumstances through individual one-to-one discussions and group activities. You will have the ability to inspire, motivate, and build rapport with individuals from a variety of backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner. You will possess excellent organisational and communication skills to effectively work collaboratively with our key prison partners to support individuals through the induction process and throughout their sentence, coaching, mentoring, and assisting individuals in their rehabilitative journey. The role is exciting and varied, with a progression pathway to develop professionally and progress into a careers guidance position, following the successful completion of an Information, Advice, and Guidance qualification at Level 4. This could be the ideal starting point for an individual who wants to progress in the education and careers field. HMP Fosse Way is a Category C super prison, holding in excess of 1700 adult male sentenced offenders. The prison operates an offence neutral approach to rehabilitation and is privately operated by Serco. HMP Fosse Way’s focus is firmly fixed on reducing reoffending and preventing future victims of crime by preparing offenders for their release through accredited intervention programmes, skill and vocational-based training, and education, in a pro-social environment.
