The Department of Earth Sciences UCL runs undergraduate Degree Programmes (BSc/MSci) in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geophysics, and Environmental Geosciences, as well as postgraduate taught Masters programmes (Msc) in Geophysical Hazards and Geosciences.

About the role

We are seeking a Lecturer (Teaching) to act as Deputy Undergraduate Tutor and to assist with delivering our taught programmes (particularly in areas of environmental geoscience and environmental geochemistry). Important components of the role will include an administrative focus as Deputy Undergraduate Tutor, together with teaching an environmental module, contributing to an advanced geochemistry module, and supervising independent field- and laboratory-based research projects, making use of our outstanding analytical facilities within the Department.

The post is funded for three years in the first instance with a start date of 1st July 2025.

About you

Candidates will have a PhD in a relevant area of Earth Sciences and a strong practical and theoretical background in Environmental / Palaeoenvironmental Geosciences. Experience of student assessments and marking protocols, and experience of designing and developing teaching materials is essential. Experience of field-based teaching and organisation is also essential. Good written and verbal communication skills, the ability to present information effectively to a range of audiences and the ability to meet deadlines is essential.
