We are currently recruiting for a Legal Assistant to assist our busy Care team based at our York office on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be confident with a passion to learn and an ability to get the job done. You will learn how to assist on child care matters from instruction to completion. The department works as a team, and support will always be given. You should have excellent communication skills and be able to build relationships at all levels, both internal and external. This position would ideally suit someone looking for a long-term career within child law. Responsibilities:

Prepare correspondence and documents through audio-typing. Administration of client files, including daily electronic filing and opening. Gain training on using bespoke legal software, including court portal, legal aid portal, and our bespoke case management system. Make appointments, arrange meetings, and maintain an up-to-date diary for their fee earner. Attend to clients both in person and on the telephone, providing support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care. Endeavour to resolve client queries where applicable without fee earner intervention and pass any urgent and/or outstanding issues to the fee earner for guidance. Demonstrate a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement and development. Maintain full working knowledge of IT systems, including Outlook, Excel, Teams, and Word. Ensure all relevant information is entered onto the case management system, including preparation of legal documents. Exercise high standards of client care in a professional and pleasant manner, including liaising with court, barrister’s clerks, and experts appointed by the court. Work with your fee earner to achieve their fee target in line with the firm’s business plan. Ensure the confidentiality and security of all of the firm’s and client documentation and information. Provide general assistance and support in the department. The role also supports networking opportunities for candidates who wish to assist the department in this area. The successful candidate will enjoy a busy hands-on support role. You will be a conscientious, proactive, and thorough team player who takes pride in delivering quality work.
