Your new role The organisation is seeking a Legal Counsel to join the team, focusing on non-transactional legal support and risk oversight. Key areas include regulatory issues like Freedom of Information, data sharing, and policy advice. This role also supports the broader Legal and Governance team. Responsibilities: Provide legal support for marketing, communications, and data matters. Assist with marketing collateral review, compliance advice, brand protection, and handling complaints. Support operations and projects, including Start Up Loans and supplier relationships. Offer general legal support across various functions, manage external advisers, and handle regulatory matters and litigation responses. This role is integral to ensuring legal compliance and managing risks within the business. Requirements: Post-qualification experience in corporate, commercial, financial regulation/funds, or finance. Strong technical skills and knowledge about products, issues, and risks in a state-owned financial services organisation. Expertise in some or all of the following areas: Subsidy Control, State aid, financial regulation, public law, freedom of information, data protection, judicial review, or procurement law. Experience managing external counsel. What you'll need to succeed: 4 PQE as a guideline only. Knowledge or experience of corporate, commercial, financial regulation/funds and finance law. Good technical skills and willingness to learn a range of products and issues. Evaluate potential risks in a complex financial services organisation. Knowledge of areas of law applicable to public sector. Experience working in the legal department of a central government department or public sector department.
