EDF Energy is a core part of the EDF Group, one of the largest energy companies in Europe with key business operations in the UK, France, Italy and Belgium. We're the UK's largest producer of low-carbon electricity, the biggest supplier of electricity by volume in Great Britain, the largest supplier to British businesses and we employ more than 13,000 people. We operate nuclear, coal and gas power stations, wind farms, and combined heat & power plants. We have a focus on safe, dependable energy generation and an ethos of service excellence. We are playing a leading role in new nuclear build in the UK to secure a bright future for the combined business and its employees. Do you want to step into a dynamic role that lets you thrive in a strategic legal environment? Are you ready to leave your mark on groundbreaking nuclear projects?

Join us as a Legal Counsel and make your impact felt on the energy landscape.

The Opportunity

As a Legal Counsel in EDF Energy's Nuclear EPR Programme, you'll be at the heart of the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project. This initiative isn't just monumental in scale; it plays a pivotal role in the UK's climate change agenda and energy policy.

With locations in Bristol and Somerset, this position also offers hybrid working with opportunities to visit and work from the HPC site. We're looking for someone who can keep up with the fast-paced environment and is proactive in generating work, ready to tackle challenges head-on.

Responsibilities:

Providing timely, preventive, and commercially relevant legal advice on a full range of commercial and regulatory matters, ensuring the business understands its regulatory compliance obligations. Proactively identifying potential disputes, claims, or regulatory compliance issues, managing formal disputes or regulatory engagement to avoid such issues. Drafting, negotiating, and advising on a range of commercial (non-construction) contracts required by the project, and assisting in managing complex governance and equity arrangements with key stakeholders across EDF and the UK Government. Researching legislative changes that may impact HPC and sharing insights across the legal team and business unit, including delivering training courses. Managing specific matters for HPC, including the appointment and instruction of external law firms as required. Taking initiative and being a go-getter, ready to tackle difficult situations and actively generate work without waiting for direction.

You're a qualified solicitor admitted in England and Wales, equipped with at least 1 year of post-qualification experience (or relevant pre-qualification experience).

Your legal acumen is well-rounded and versatile, making you comfortable in both commercial and regulatory environments. You thrive in a dynamic team setting, adept at meeting project deadlines and managing multiple priorities.

Flexibility defines you, as you're keen to expand your legal horizons and explore new areas of law.

You enjoy developing relationships with key stakeholders and display professionalism in everything you do. We're open to candidates who may be at a more junior level, provided you demonstrate a proactive mindset and the ability to drive your own work.

Alongside a competitive salary starting from £70,800 + DOE and a market-leading pension scheme, we offer a range of flexible benefits to support our people across all aspects of their lives.

Your rewards package includes a choice of benefits, such as electric vehicle leasing, enhanced parental leave, health insurance, discounts, and employee pricing.

Hybrid working means you can work from our Bristol office or from home (if you wish) for part of the week. We'll provide a suite of IT equipment to ensure that you can work remotely comfortably and effectively.

At EDF, everyone's welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and feels confident being themselves. We're committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We'd like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ individuals, those with disabilities, and support social mobility.

We're a disability confident employer, and we'll do all we can to help with your application, adjusting as you need.

We'll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed. #J-18808-Ljbffr
