This role will primarily involve handling all legal matters related to our commercial and construction subcontracts across all of our businesses. Key responsibilities include: Carry out the review, negotiation and drafting of commercial terms/contracts, construction contracts and legal agreements for business projects (including subcontracts based on NEC, JCT, FIDIC, SBCC terms or variations thereof); The role will have its own caseload of matters; Support the businesses in commercial negotiations in respect of a wide range of customer and supplier contracts; Advise on arising issues, risks and commercial queries, with guidance from appropriate functions (insurance and finance) where required; Deliver training programmes to the business on legal and contractual risks and issues related to, amongst other things, construction terms/contracts; Update commercial terms/precedents and templates, whilst contributing to processes and improved ways of working; Acting as a first point of contact for legal queries for the business; Work with the regional general counsel and/or external counsel on any arising issues. Key Requirements
A qualified lawyer in England & Wales with at least 3 years PQE. Ideally, the successful candidate will have trained in private practice and will also have some experience working in-house. Strong attention to detail coupled with proactiveness and a genuine eagerness to learn and operate in a fast-paced environment. Expertise and familiarity with construction industry contracts (e.g. NEC, JCT, FIDIC, SBCC terms (and similar)). Familiarity with concepts around construction project insurance, collateral warranties, performance bonds and guarantees and the management of claims. A strategic and creative thinker that possesses the ability to think quickly, identify and address legal issues, has experience working with incomplete/imperfect information, and capable of suggesting appropriate courses of action. Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills to effectively manage internal stakeholder groups and establish lasting client relationships. Excellent written/verbal and influencing skills are required for this role. You should have a strong ability to positively influence the behaviour of multiple stakeholders in order to maintain a good legal and fiscal position for the company. Enthusiastic about understanding our business and eager to contribute to more challenging legal matters. Able to effectively convey complex and technical legal concepts to a non-technical audience.
