About the role As Legal Counsel you will be working closely with our Head of Legal to oversee the legal land aspects of our business. You will be instrumental in progressing our nationwide portfolio of land transactions from heads of terms stage through to legal completion, while providing timely and clear advice to the business. Although predominantly focusing on all things land related there will be opportunities to expand your knowledge and get involved with other areas. What we need from you A qualified property solicitor or legal executive in England and Wales with 3-5 years of PQE combined with a robust background in leasehold portfolio management, and/or agricultural land law. Prior in-house experience is highly desirable but not essential. Your specialist knowledge means you will be able to quickly understand and unblock legal issues as they arise. Communication is your superpower, as you effortlessly navigate negotiations with external parties and build relationships with external counsel. Your excellent judgment and analytical skills are second nature, empowering you to make well-informed decisions in the face of uncertainty. Collaboration is at the heart of your work, as you seamlessly liaise with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally. And there’s more … Drive and progress multiple habitat bank land transactions through managing external law firms, meeting deadlines and delivering exceptional outcomes for our landowners. Draft and negotiate habitat bank leases and habitat management agreements, ensuring optimal outcomes for all parties involved. Flexing between managing transactions in-house and instructing external law firms depending upon business needs. Report effectively to the Head of Legal on contract terms and title related risks, while engaging in effective negotiations and problem solving with landowners and their lawyers to remove or resolve risks that would be unacceptable to the business. Cultivate a strong and productive relationship with external counsel. Focus on enhancing processes and managing costs, continuously seeking opportunities for improvement and optimisation. Become a key partner to the Land team to ensure legal support throughout the habitat bank onboarding process and lifetime of the habitat bank.
