Role Purpose: Work within the Society’s Legal Function to provide advice on a range of matters across the Society and assist the business in managing risk (whether legal, reputational or compliance). This Legal Counsel role includes advising on a broad spectrum of legal issues but will have a focus on

advising stakeholders on mortgages and saving accounts

and ensuring that such products are designed and managed in accordance with regulatory requirements and the Society’s risk appetite, which will also include the activities: Core Contractual Documentation Assist (or at times lead) in the Society’s internal and external review of the Savings Account Terms and Conditions and Mortgage Conditions. Legal Advice Request queries Provide clear, prompt, effective legal advice to all functions and stakeholders in relation to savings and mortgages accounts. Complaints and Disputes Coordinate responses to material non-standard litigation matters. Other Legal Practice Areas Charitable arrangements, sponsorships/marketing relationships and commercial contracts with a regulatory element. Day to Day: You will work as part of the Products team, reporting to the Lead Counsel, which has overall responsibility for Mortgages and Savings. You will respond to queries from stakeholders and undertake the engagement of external legal or non-legal experts as required. You will collaborate closely with other teams in the Legal Function and wider Society. You will ensure that the Society remains compliant with legal and regulatory requirements in your area and acts in accordance with internal policies and procedures. You will always ensure that an appropriate level of consistent and accurate advice and support is delivered to stakeholders in a highly compliant, professional, and timely manner and consider the impact of your advice and the actions of the business on the risk appetite of the Society (whether legal, reputational or compliance related). About you Your skillset: Advisory: Skills to advise colleagues in a commercially practical and common-sense manner. Responsibility: You have a strong alignment to the Society’s values and can evidence this in the way you manage and prioritise the activities for which you have responsibility. Proactive: You will be developing professional skills, knowledge and experience in your specialist area but also have good broad legal knowledge. Teamwork: The ability to work effectively as part of the wider team and Legal Function is essential. You will be legally qualified and have demonstrable experience in the elements required for this role and in working in a complex and busy workplace. You have strong drafting and research experience. Stakeholder management with the ability to negotiate, analytical and influencing skills. Desirable Requirements: You will ideally have financial services experience and/or experience of working in a regulated environment. Hours:

35 - Mon to Fri hybrid working, with at least 1 day a week in the Coventry office.
