Library and Information Advisor , you will be at the forefront of delivering a high-quality library service within the unique environment of HMP Whatton. You will work closely with our library team to support customers of all ages, ensuring they feel empowered to explore a plethora of resources that can aid in their rehabilitation and learning journey. Your role will be engaging and diverse, from assisting patrons with reading choices to implementing outreach programmes that foster a love for reading and learning. This is a part-time position working on a variable weekly schedule. On average, you can expect to work approximately 14 hours per week in the first week (Wednesday & Thursday 8.30am – 4pm) and 22.75 hours per week in the second week (Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 8.30am – 4pm). Key responsibilities include: Collaborate with the Library Manager and team to deliver exceptional library services. Conduct routine library tasks such as lending, shelving, and organising displays. Help customers navigate their information and learning needs by providing guidance or facilitating independent research. Support patrons in selecting reading materials and utilising online library services. Participate in outreach initiatives and events that promote library resources. Communicate effectively with colleagues about interests, developments, and safety protocols. Take on a leadership role in the absence of senior staff, ensuring seamless service delivery. Engage in team planning and decision-making regarding library events and opportunities. Work in various locations as required, maintaining a focus on safety and wellbeing. About You: You are a committed team player with a passion for customer service! Your background in a customer-facing role equips you with the empathy and communication skills necessary to build positive relationships with our diverse clientele. You have a strong understanding of library services and the digital skills to navigate and assist others in utilising them. You embrace resilience in challenging situations and have a keen interest in literacy and information access. Above all, you share our vision of transforming lives through knowledge and resources.
