Linux Engineer Primary Location: Stevenage Linux System Administration:

Installing, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat and Ubuntu servers across physical and virtual environments. Using automation, build images, and work instructions to build and configure servers, primarily virtual and hosted on VMware clusters. Performing system monitoring, optimisation, troubleshooting, and ensuring system availability and performance. Managing system configurations, repositories, and software channels. Building and racking physical servers with Customer DC and computer rooms. Updating and maintaining existing gold build images. Planning and executing system patching and upgrades using Red Hat Satellite. Patching and upgrades of server systems - ensuring timely application of security patches and updates to maintain system integrity and compliance. Capacity Management Reporting. Agent Deployment and Management:

Deploying and managing antivirus (AV) agents for endpoint protection. Configuring and maintaining Cohesity backup agents for data protection and recovery. Distributing and maintaining Tenable agents for vulnerability assessments and compliance checks. Automation and Scripting:

Developing and maintaining automation scripts to streamline system administration tasks. Implementing configuration management practices for consistent system configurations and deployments. Incident Response and Troubleshooting:

Providing rapid response to system incidents and outages, including after-hours support as needed. Conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures. General:

Reviewing the completeness of customer Linux and Unix work requests and providing quick turn-around responses for more complete and detailed requirements. Attending Bi-Weekly Engineering meetings to provide progress updates on tasks in progress. Ensuring server builds adhere to Fujitsu and customer standards for all areas of work undertaken. Attending Customer and Fujitsu sites as required to ensure deliverables are completed within timescales. Raising any risks or issues that may impact costs, delivery timelines, or overall solution deployments immediately. Assisting in testing activities. Raising change requests and presenting them at both Fujitsu and Customer change boards where required. Experience and Soft Skills:

Knowledge of build standards. Team working - ability to work within multi-disciplined teams. Flexibility/adaptability – ability to meet changes in requirements and time scales. Interpersonal capability – ability to communicate and develop good relationships with both Fujitsu and customer technical/business focused staff. Decision making – ability to make sound decisions in a timely and effective manner. Strong planning and organisation. A willingness to take ownership of issues and find a way to get them resolved. Autonomy – ability to make decisions and self-manage delivering to target dates. Technical – Desired:

Experienced in installing and configuring Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu Linux servers and associated technologies for physical and virtual server configurations. Experienced with Unix Server. Proficiency in Red Hat Satellite for patch management, system provisioning, and configuration management. Hands-on experience with server agent deployment and management, including antivirus, backup, and security agents. Scripting and automation skills using Bash, Python, or similar languages. Familiarity with system monitoring and performance tuning. Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues efficiently. Benefits:
