Self Employed Live-in ‘Companion Carer’ for an 87 year old male with mid phase Alzheimer’s dementia.

Setting:

A two bed semi detached house with newly decorated dedicated carer room and shower room. Comprehensive mobility facilities include stairlift, large walk in shower, electric riser recliner chairs, electric multi positional orthopaedic bed, and a dementia friendly CCTV app based security system for monitoring external day/nighttime wandering.

Duties: Administer am and pm medications with breakfast/evening meals. Assist with personal organization and prompting for getting up and ready for the day and at bedtime. Help prepare light breakfasts and microwave ready meals. General housekeeping. Shopping, arranging appointments, and accompanying the individual to doctor, dentist, and hospital visits. Transporting and picking up. Days out and all activities associated with the day-to-day support and running of the household.

Breaks:

We respect a minimum of 14 daytime hours per week to be negotiated around caring duties, relief/sitting carers, and daycare schedule.

Person:

This role would suit a mature person with life experience and a keen understanding of dementia-related care in the home. You must have a full driving license and ideally your own vehicle, although transport can be arranged.

Qualifications / Qualities:

Professional dementia-related care experience gained in any care setting OR recent experience of providing care for an adult friend or family member. A carer/companion approach to an elderly, outgoing, lively, good-humored, story-telling dad with much still to give and live for is essential!

Compensation:

A negotiable self-employed weekly rate plus any cared-for expenses will be reimbursed and approved mileage expenses.

Start Date:

Flexible start date in January/February subject to negotiation/trial weeks.

References / Background Checks:

An enhanced DBS disclosure, ID confirmation, drivers license with right to work in the U.K. documents, terms of business, carer insurance, and 2 work-based references are required.
