Applications are invited for a locum consultant anaesthetist with an interest in paediatric anaesthesia. Applicants should have the FRCA or an equivalent qualification and have suitable experience as described in the person specification in the job plan description. Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of their expected CCT date at the time of interview. Main duties of the job

Children's anaesthesia is predominately managed in the Lanesborough Theatre complex. Anaesthesia is provided for many different paediatric medical and surgical specialties - general surgery, urology, orthopaedics (including scoliosis service), plastics, maxillofacial, dental, ENT, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, general medicine and oncology. There is also a busy paediatric radiology service including interventional procedures. St George's is a major trauma centre covering a population of 2.6 million. The ambulance service and air ambulance service bring many children involved in multi-trauma to the hospital. St George's has a PICU and step down unit with a total 14 beds, and is the regional centre for the South West London Neonatal Network managing 39 cots (12 intensive care, 9 high dependency care, and 18 special care). The post holder is required to be a flexible member of the anaesthetic department. There are 15 consultants in the paediatric anaesthetic group. The group is dynamic and experienced, delivering anaesthesia to emergency paediatric patients and a large mixture of the paediatric surgical and medical groups. On call responsibilities are for neonatal and paediatric patients, and this is directly supported in the initial months of the post. Job responsibilities

There are two full-time locum post of 10 PAs, with 8.5 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PA for SPA in support of personal CPD, preparation for GMC appraisal and revalidation. Please see main job descriptions for job plans. Person Specification

Qualifications

Holder of Certificate of completion of training (CCT) training in Anaesthesia or equivalent, within six months of interview FRCA or equivalent Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), or eligible for registration within six months of interview. MSc, PhD or similar Other resuscitation certifications Experience

Evidence of broad experience in all aspects of general anaesthesia and able to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of the patients Experience of NHS working practices and systems (minimum one year working for the NHS) At least 12 months Advanced Training or equivalent, or Fellowship in Paediatric Anaesthesia Relevant publications in peer reviewed literature Post graduate research Skills / Clinical

Logbook evidence of all cases within last 2 years Logbook evidence within neonatal and paediatric anaesthesia Application form: please include table data from your logbook for the above Skills / Teaching

Evidence of formal training in teaching methods Delivering teaching to Anaesthetic Consultants and Trainees Evidence of Multi-disciplinary teaching in Paediatric anaesthesia Evidence of delivering teaching to undergraduate students, postgraduate doctors and/or allied healthcare professionals Post-graduate teaching qualification or equivalent Teaching in the Simulator setting Evidence of Teaching at National Level / Regional Level Awards or prizes for presentations delivered Skills / IT

Use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams (or similar applications) Designing info graphics, posters Skills / Leadership and Management

Completion of appropriate Management /Leadership course(s) Previous experience/participation in a management/leadership role Post-graduate qualification in leadership and management Trainee Representative Lead role in developing a service Non-clinical management experience Audit, Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) and service improvement

Completion of Audits and/or QIPs within Paediatric Anaesthesia Knowledge and understanding of ACSA (Anaesthetic Clinical Service Accreditation) Experience in leading clinical audits, implementing change and monitoring compliance Adapting National Guidelines to departmental level Awareness of service development issues Ability to work productively in multidisciplinary teams both as team leader and as team member Team working within the non-clinical setting Personal Qualities
