Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training. Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, part time (38 hours per week) post based between Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and St John’s Hospital. The base hospital will be RHCYP. This is a fixed term post for 6 months and is LTFT 7PA/week. Commitments will be split between RHCYP Edinburgh and St John’s with the exact split to be agreed in job planning. The post is available from Feb 2025. You may also be required to work at any of NHS Lothian’s sites. NHS Lothian is developing paediatric outpatient services in community clinics and hospitals to deliver care close to the child’s home and strengthen links with primary care. The post will augment consultant cover for the Acute Receiving Unit (ARU) at RHCYP and support out of hours cover at St John’s. Out of hours commitments will include resident out of hours shifts (tier 2) covering acute paediatrics and neonatology at St John’s and evening shifts in RHCYP. These will be job planned on an annualised basis with one quarter of shifts to be delivered every three months. The St John’s unit is developing a staffing model that does not require trainees to provide out of hours cover. This will be delivered by a group of clinicians comprising advanced paediatric nurse practitioners, advanced neonatal nurse practitioners, consultants and specialty doctors working on a pan-Lothian basis. Special interests within paediatrics will be accommodated whenever possible provided the job plan allows this.
