Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Medicine for the Elderly at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to commence from 03 March 2025 for 12 months. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our recently expanded clinical team and participate in the development of clinical services for older adults in Cambridgeshire for one year. This is an exciting time for the Department of Medicine for the Elderly. We are in the process of expanding our department, and are particularly interested in developing innovative processes of care for our patient population. We currently provide specialist care on ‘Core’ Medicine for the Elderly wards, Frailty Front Door service, outpatients and specialty referrals. Main duties of the job: This post will enable the service to increase its community provision with the establishment of rapid access clinics and care-home interface work. There will be the opportunity to participate in these and/or develop other areas of subspecialty interest on agreement with the Clinical Lead. The successful candidate will be able to join a waiting list to participate in the General Medicine (GIM) on-call rota if desired. We are very keen to develop our existing interest in education and training of Residents, and would also welcome and support applicants with an interest in utilising the research opportunities available to those working within a biomedical research campus. The post is open to applicants with Geriatrics speciality training. You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share. Working for your organisation: The applicants must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice. Applications from job seekers who require skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. It is a requirement for skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an Equal Opportunities Employer. Detailed job description and main responsibilities: Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) is a thriving, modern NHS hospital based in Cambridge, England. CUH is a flagship NHS hospital, having achieved NHS Foundation Trust status in July 2004. We work in partnership with the University and their research partners (the MRC and CRUK) to make The Cambridge Biomedical Campus; an internationally leading centre for biomedical and translational research. Please refer to the Job description and Person specification attached for further details on the main responsibilities and duties for this post.
