We are looking for an enthusiastic Paediatric & Strabismus locum consultant to join our dynamic team in the Eye Unit, University Hospital Southampton NHS foundation trust. Southampton Eye Unit is a tertiary referral centre for many complex paediatric and strabismic problems in Hampshire and the wider regions. We support a busy general paediatric service in the hospital including paediatric neuro-oncology, neurology & neonatal services as well as providing tertiary uveitis, genetic and oculomotility expertise. The ideal candidate will hold FRCOphth or equivalent and full GMC registration with a licence to practice. Experience in treating Paediatric Ophthalmic conditions including screening and treatment of ROP & the clinical/ surgical management of strabismus is essential. The unit is very well supported by orthoptists & optometrists, retinal imaging & electrophysiology.You will join a wider team including 3 other Paediatric Ophthalmology Consultants and allied health professionals. WHAT YOULL DO: Provide paediatric and adult oculomotility ophthalmology clinics and surgery WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR: Applicants who have completed a Paediatric and Strabismus fellowship and ROP screening and treatment experience Person Specification

Qualifications and training

FRCOphth or equivalent GMC registration with a licence to practise Aptitudes and skills

Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching Qualifications and training

CCT or within 3 months of completion of CCT Previous or relevant experience

Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems Paediatric and Strabismus fellowship ROP Screening and Treatment Experience Aptitudes and skills

Demonstrate the ability to be calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to various circumstances, which may change rapidly Living the Trust values

Patients First Always Improving Working Together Aptitudes and skills

Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English) Demonstrate good organisational skills including ability to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines Disclosure and Barring Service Check
