Full Time - 10PA The Plastic Surgery Department at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals seeks a plastic surgery consultant with a subspecialist interest in skin cancer management. Experience of close collaborative working in the setting of local skin cancer multi-disciplinary teams is essential. Candidates must be familiar with all aspects of cutaneous oncology management. Alongside working at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, 3 days a fortnight is spent at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Foundation Trust, Woolwich) supporting the surgery and dermatology departments. Outpatient activities have a strong emphasis on skin cancer management. Care for inpatients is coordinated with the St Thomas' Hospital plastic surgery on-call team. The dermatology department skin cancer team is a friendly, close group in the context of the weekly multi-disciplinary meeting working amiably with the surgical member. The appointed plastic surgery consultant will be the link between the local MDM and the specialist MDM, based at Guy's Hospital. Main duties of the job
To provide a Plastic Surgery service in conjunction with colleagues. The post holder will have specialist expertise in surgical aspects of Dermato Oncology. To contribute to sector lead MDT's. To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care. To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. To contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development, including support of satellite sites across London. To assist in the future development of the Plastic Surgery department. You must be fully registered with the GMC/GDC and hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage. The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions. Professional Qualifications
Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a License to Practise. On GMC Specialist Register or within three months of attaining CCT. FRCS (Plast) or equivalent. Clinical experience
Comprehensive clinical experience in plastic surgery, on a day case and inpatient basis, including on-call emergency management. Fellowship in dermato-oncology or equivalent. Clinical Skills
Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team. Team-based approach to care and service management, including appreciation of nursing and therapy roles. Evidence of extensive skin cancer management experience. Audit Management and IT
Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit and clinical risk management within the field of plastic surgery. Research, Teaching Skills and Experience
Experience of undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training. Publications in at least one specialist field. A demonstrable aptitude for pursuing research goals. Teaching qualification. Higher research degree. Leadership and management skills
