We are seeking to appoint a dynamic individual within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells Hospitals. This is a locum consultant post, fixed term for 6 months in Obstetrics and Gynaecology based at Tunbridge Wells Hospital pending a substantive appointment. This post is in response to the expansion of maternity services, supporting our CQC maternity improvement plan and recovery of gynaecology services. The candidate will be expected to integrate within the team of existing Consultants and to provide a complete Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service. Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work on both sites of the Trust providing emergency cover as well as on-call cover. We have a weekday hot week on call between 8-6 pm. About us

The Trust consists of the Tunbridge Wells Hospital and Maidstone Hospital and serves a population of approximately 500,000 people, living in the West Kent and East Sussex areas. The Trust also manages the Kent Cancer Centre at Maidstone and Canterbury. Service provision for Obstetrics is based at the Tunbridge Wells hospital with Birth Centres adjacent to Maidstone Hospital and in Crowborough. We deliver approximately 5800 babies per annum across the three units. Gynaecology inpatients and most emergencies are treated at Tunbridge Wells Hospital. Ambulatory Gynaecology and Outpatient services are at both hospitals. Job responsibilities

The job plan for the post will be flexible to support the services reset and recovery plans and may be altered depending on the skills of the person appointed and their experience. This will be the responsibility of the Clinical Director and the Head of Service. Person Specification

Qualifications and skills

Full GMC registration CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (or within 6 months of AAC) or equivalent Labour ward ATSM Advance Laparoscopic surgery for the excision of benign disease Benign abdominal surgery: open and laparoscopic Benign gynaecological surgery: hysteroscopy Experience and evidence of involvement in service development Clinical Experience and effectiveness

Clinical training and experience in obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST Evidence of ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients Evidence of wide experience in clinical audit/ quality improvement Well-developed labour ward skills and genuine interest in working in a progressive multidisciplinary labour ward environment Demonstrate ideas for research and innovative practice Experience working in Endometriosis service Management and administrative experience

Attendance on management or leadership course Management and administrative experience Staff management: delegating, appraisal of performance, dealing with poor performance, coaching and motivating Participation in leadership development Teaching and training experience

Experience of teaching junior medical staff and other healthcare professionals Develops, supports and motivates junior staff Courses or qualification in medical education Understanding of how to provide effective and open feedback Personal attributes

Good Leadership skills Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies. Enthusiasm and ability to work under pressure. Good organizational and time management skills Supportive and tolerant, ability to speak up on behalf of others Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. Good interpersonal skills. Caring attitude to patients. Commitment to continuing medical education. An awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses. Resident within 10 miles or 30 minutes of hospital while on call Disclosure and Barring Service Check
