The Royal London Hospital is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Consultant Physician to join our team in the Acute Medicine department. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide comprehensive acute medical care to a diverse patient population.

Responsibilities: Acute Medicine:

Lead the acute medical take, providing expert care and decision-making for patients presenting with a variety of acute medical conditions. Oversee the management of patients in a short stay inpatient general medical ward, ensuring high standards of clinical care and patient safety. Participate in the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service to facilitate admission avoidance, early supported discharge, and reduced ED attendance. Take part in the Rapid Diagnostic Clinic service, focusing on the early identification of serious illnesses, including cancers, allowing for quicker treatment decisions and improved patient outcomes. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated and efficient care, participating in ward rounds, case discussions, and discharge planning.

Main duties of the job: Education and Training:

Contribute to the education and training of resident doctors, medical students, and other healthcare professionals. Provide mentorship and guidance to support their professional development. Research and Innovation:

Engage in clinical research and quality improvement projects to advance the field of acute and general medicine. Encourage and participate in innovative practices and treatments. Collaboration:

Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including nursing staff, allied health professionals, and administrative personnel, to ensure holistic patient care. On-call Duties:

Participate in the on-call rota, providing expert support and decision-making during emergency situations.

Person Specification: Experience: Essential: Broad, practical experience in Acute and General Internal Medicine Regular, recent participation in the acute medical take and on-call. Desirable: Experience in Intensive care, and Emergency medicine. Skills: Essential: ALS: Competent in all practical procedures necessary to run the acute medical take. Desirable: Other skills - Ultrasound, Echocardiography. Qualifications: Essential: MRCP or Equivalent. Certificate of completion of training (CCT) (or proposed CCT within 6 months of interview) or Certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) in Acute Medicine. AIM and/or GIM accredited as part of CCT or equivalent. Desirable: Higher Degree. Publication of papers in appropriate journals/literature. Clinical, basic research, epidemiological, health delivery and/or health economic publications related to acute medicine. Other: Essential: Excellent communication skills. Must be a Team player with demonstrable experience working and leading acute medical, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams. Strong Leadership skills. Desirable: A passion to work within the East End of London to ensure that its population receive the best medical care and our trainees receive the best medical training in Britain.
