We are looking to recruit a Learning Disability Consultant Psychiatrist (locum) to join Swansea Bay University Health Board's Learning Disability Service. The successful candidate will join a team of Consultant Learning Disability Psychiatrists who cover the other geographical areas within the Learning Disabilities Division, which includes SBUHB, CTMUHB and C& VUHB regions. The post will be full time (10 programmed sessions per week).

The successful candidate will be based in Hafod Y Wennol Acute Admission and Rehabilitation Unit, Hensol, Pontylcun but will travel to various locations within their geographical area of Merthyr and Rhondda Cynon Taf. Additionally, they may be required at times to travel to other locations within the health board to include LD sites managed within the Divisional geographical footprint that covers SBUHB, CTMUHB and C& VUHB.

Main duties of the job

The principal duty of this post is to provide clinical leadership to, and to be responsible for the delivery of patient care forMerthyr and parts of Rhondda Cynon Taf localities.

The post holder will be part of a multi-professional team which includes Medical staff, Nurses, Social Workers, Support Workers, Psychologists and Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists. You will provide a clinical service, with colleagues, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. The post-holder will be expected to work closely with Consultant colleagues providing unscheduled care in order to ensure continuity of the care pathways.

The post-holder will be expected to work closely with other colleagues in Learning Disabilities and Mental Health to offer a flexible service. The post-holder is expected to demonstrate a commitment to delivering excellence in clinical care, to work effectively with multi-disciplinary community teams and inpatient teams to promote the safety and well-being of patients.

About us

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.

Mental Health and learning Disabilities services are provided both in hospital settings (Cefn Coed Hospital in Swansea, Caswell clinic and Taith Newydd at Glanrhyd Bridgend) and other community settings.

We also have community hospital and primary care resource centres providing clinical services outside the main hospitals.

The Health Board is part of A Regional Collaboration for Health (ARCH), which is a partnership with Hywel Dda UHB and Swansea University. Aimed at improving the wellbeing and wealth of Southwest Wales.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered with the GMC Licensed to practice On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Learning Disabilities or eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB or a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register

Desirable

Further relevant degree/diploma Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education
