Worcestershire Acute Radiology department provides scanning and diagnostic tests in acute and community hospitals across the county, to include:

Plain x-ray services We provide plain x-rays at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre, Worcestershire Royal Hospital as well as in community hospitals in Evesham, Malvern, Bromsgrove and Tenbury.

Ultrasound scans We provide ultrasound services at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre, Worcestershire Royal Hospital as well as in community hospitals in Evesham, and Bromsgrove.

CT scanners We provide Computerised Tomography (CT) at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre and Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

MRI scanners We provide Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre and Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

For a full-time contract: Direct Clinical Care: 8 PAs on average per week (includes clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable & unpredictable emergency work) Cross-site travel and clinical administration time is included in each session of DCC. Supporting Professional Activities: 2 PAs per week. On call: Category B 3% on-call availability supplement. Rota frequency is anticipated to be 1:20 although this may be subject to change following a formal department review.

Main duties of the job The post-holder will attend cross county & cross site meetings. To collaborate with colleagues to deliver a high quality, timely service and to work towards meeting the Trusts and departmental objectives. The post-holder will develop close collaborative links with Clinicians working in his/her area of specialist expertise and work to develop services to patients in these areas to the highest standard, according to departmental protocols and Trust guidance. To include development of diagnostic and where appropriate therapeutic protocols and guidelines, where appropriate this will involve active participation with Primary Care colleagues. The post-holder will participate in the prospectively covered on-call rota to ensure that both emergency, urgent and inpatient services are provided outside of normal working hours, to be shared equally with Consultant colleagues in post. Job description Job responsibilities The post-holder will attend cross county & cross site meetings. To collaborate with colleagues to deliver a high quality, timely service and to work towards meeting the Trusts and departmental objectives. The post-holder will develop close collaborative links with Clinicians working in his/her area of specialist expertise and work to develop services to patients in these areas to the highest standard, according to departmental protocols and Trust guidance. To include development of diagnostic and where appropriate therapeutic protocols and guidelines, where appropriate this will involve active participation with Primary Care colleagues. The post-holder will participate in the Trusts annual appraisal as described by DOH and leading to revalidation and job planning process. The post-holder will seek approval for any absence from the Trust such as annual leave, professional leave, study leave & other leave and make available this record at your job plan review. The post-holder will participate in the prospectively covered on-call rota to ensure that both emergency, urgent and inpatient services are provided outside of normal working hours, to be shared equally with Consultant colleagues in post. A consultant is expected to attend the hospital site for offsite on-call duties and may be required to attend the hospital to undertake patient reviews. Consultants will provide cross cover for periods of annual and study leave. To facilitate effective quality assurance and audit and to ensure that services comply with national standards and guidance. The post-holder will take part in departmental and multi-disciplinary audit programmes in addition to undertaking individual audit. Participation is required in the Departmental Clinical Governance Programme. The post-holder will participate in regular clinical meetings, post-graduate activities and maintain continuing medical education in accordance with the requirements of the relevant Royal College and General Medical Council. The Post-holder will ensure their own practice is up to date and they support the principles of revalidation by the GMC. Share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers. Comply with all relevant Trust policies and procedures. Adhere to the pledges as laid out in the NHS Constitution. Person Specification Management and Administrative Experience Essential Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities Ability to manage and lead the on-call and multi-disciplinary teams Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit Desirable Ability to manage and lead specialist unit and working parties as appropriate Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making Personal Attributes Essential Ability to work in a team Enquiring, critical approach to work Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies Commitment to Continuing Medical Education Desirable Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local regional or national levels Research Experience Essential Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems An awareness of current specialty specific developments and initiatives Desirable Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals in the last 5 years Evidence of having undertaken original research Experience Essential Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in Clinical Radiology Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients Expertise in subspecialty Teaching Experience Essential Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates Desirable Ability to supervise postgraduate research Qualifications Essential Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise.
