Full-time, 40 hours per week (including on-call duties) Job Overview The NHS Trust is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join its respiratory team. The role involves providing expert care in the diagnosis and management of respiratory conditions, contributing to the development of respiratory services, and supporting the education of junior staff. The position is ideal for a Consultant Respiratory Physician with a commitment to patient-centered care and service innovation. Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership and Patient Care:

Provide expert care to patients with a broad spectrum of respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, and complex respiratory infections. Lead outpatient respiratory clinics, providing thorough patient assessments, diagnostic workups, and evidence-based treatment plans. Supervise inpatient care, performing ward rounds, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to manage patients admitted with respiratory issues. Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures, such as bronchoscopy, thoracic ultrasound, and pleural interventions, as appropriate. Collaborate with the critical care team to manage patients requiring ventilatory support or other high-dependency respiratory interventions.

On-Call and Emergency Duties:

Participate in the consultant on-call rota for respiratory and general medicine, providing timely and effective care to acutely unwell patients. Provide support to the emergency department and acute care units for respiratory-related emergencies, including cases requiring urgent respiratory intervention.

Education, Supervision, and Mentorship:

Supervise and support junior doctors, specialty trainees, and respiratory nursing staff in their clinical duties. Lead teaching sessions, case reviews, and continuing professional development (CPD) activities to promote knowledge sharing and best practices. Mentor junior staff, providing feedback and guidance on clinical performance and professional development.

Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement:

Participate in clinical governance activities, including audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement projects within the respiratory department. Contribute to departmental research, clinical trials, or other studies in respiratory medicine, supporting evidence-based advancements. Promote patient safety, quality standards, and compliance with NHS protocols and guidelines within the department.

Service Development and Policy Engagement:

Actively participate in the development of respiratory services, contributing to strategy planning, policy development, and pathway improvements. Attend departmental and hospital meetings, collaborating with healthcare providers and administrative staff to address patient care needs and service priorities. Build partnerships with community healthcare providers, local public health services, and patient support groups to improve respiratory health outcomes.

Essential Qualifications and Requirements Medical Degree

(MBBS or equivalent) recognized by the General Medical Council (GMC). Full GMC Registration

with a license to practice in the UK. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

in Respiratory Medicine or dual accreditation in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine (or eligibility within six months of interview). Entry on the GMC Specialist Register

in Respiratory Medicine (or eligibility within six months of the interview date). Extensive Experience in Respiratory Medicine:

Competency in managing a wide range of respiratory conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Technical Skills in Respiratory Procedures:

Proficiency in performing and interpreting diagnostic respiratory procedures such as bronchoscopy and pleural interventions. Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

Ability to effectively engage with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams, providing compassionate and clear communication. Legal Right to Work in the UK Desirable Qualifications Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP)

or equivalent. Advanced Life Support (ALS) Certification:

Experience in acute respiratory management and certification in ALS or equivalent is preferred. Specialized Skills in Respiratory Subspecialties:

Additional expertise in areas such as interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, or sleep medicine. Research and Publication Record:

Previous involvement in research, clinical audits, or publications related to respiratory medicine. Experience in Service Development:

Proven experience in service improvement, respiratory pathway development, or departmental leadership. Skills and Personal Attributes Clinical Expertise in Respiratory Medicine:

Strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills, with the ability to manage complex respiratory conditions. Patient-Centered Approach:
