Job overview

This post is a new post which has been created to manage the increasing demand upon the Oculoplastics service. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the existing Oculoplastics team to deliver a high quality and timely service to the local population. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to shape and contribute to the development of the service they will also work closely with the current team of consultant colleagues and participate in a 1 in 10 (both weekday and weekend) on call rota. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the general ophthalmic and cataract service and flexibility is required to meet the department’s service commitment to delivery of efficient, safe and high quality patient care. Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will participate in outpatient activity leading and managing both specialist Oculoplastics and general ophthalmology clinics, be involved in preoperative management prior to surgery, and in all aspects of the operative care of the patients. It is anticipated that the surgeon will spend the equivalent of two sessions in the operating theatre and three to four sessions a week in outpatient clinic in addition to administrative duties. The successful applicant will work closely with clinical colleagues, nursing, and other allied health care staff in order to enhance the level of patient care at the Trust. The final allocation of patient contact time, including theatre and clinics, will be agreed in discussion with the Clinical Director. Working for our organisation

Qualifications

FRCOphth (or equivalent) Full GMC registration with licence to practice. Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: a) Certificate of completion of Training (CCT) (The proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview). b) Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). European Community Rights. Experience

Recognised sub-speciality training in Oculoplastic surgery. Comprehensive and sound knowledge of general ophthalmology and in particular in Oculoplastic surgery. Evidence of ability to perform safe and skilful cataract surgery as well as advanced subspecialty specific procedures.
