Applications are invited to apply for the Locum post of Consultant Orthopaedic Oncology Surgeon, 12 months fixed term, based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Windmill Road, Headington, Oxford OX3 7HE.

The Oxford Sarcoma Service is involved in many innovative initiatives to enhance the provision of surgery for both bone and soft tissue sarcoma whilst continuing to work closely with academic colleagues to build the evidence base for surgical procedures. We are looking for an applicant who is a team player and has relevant experience in both the management of sarcoma, including experience in using multidisciplinary team working and in undertaking complex reconstructive surgery to the hip, pelvis, knee and other site-specific areas as required.

The service is closely aligned with the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedic, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford, with many opportunities for collaboration.

You must be fully registered with the GMC/GDC and hold a full License to Practice and be on the specialist register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.

Main Duties of the Job

The following are the main duties and responsibilities associated with the post: Delivery of clinical care of a high standard and undertake any reasonable clinical responsibility appropriate to the post. Management of the service, including supporting and leading junior staff, and working with theatre schedulers and other staff to ensure lists and clinics are safe and planned. Attendance at MDT and service meetings. Engage fully in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit.

Qualifications/Training

Essential Full GMC Registration and license to practice CCT in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery OR on GMC Specialist Register in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery OR within six months of achieving CCT at time of interview FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent General training in Orthopaedic including hip and knee surgery 12 months Fellowship in sarcoma Experience in the treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcoma and surgery of the hip / pelvis. Desirable Higher degree or Diploma and research experience relevant to the field of surgical oncology Experience

Essential General training in Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery to specialist level or equivalent Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems. Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Desirable Previous experience of consultant experience in Hip and Knee Surgery Experience of consultant responsibilities in a recognised Sarcoma unit. Specialist expertise in pelvic tumour resection and reconstruction at consultant level. Skills and Knowledge

Essential Excellent leadership skills. Evidence of ability to lead a clinical team at the level of a consultant in a teaching hospital. Effective administrative and time management skills. Training in clinical management. Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS. Evidence of involvement in clinical management and participation in Clinical Governance. Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork within a multidisciplinary team. Basic IT skills. Good written English. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees and of routine clinical audit. Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities. Desirable Leadership training Evidence of experience with electronic patient record and database administration and management. Evidence of recent 360 degree appraisal. Experience as tutor/clinical supervisor to students/junior medical staff. Teaching qualification. Evidence of recent audit activity. Evidence of investigating patient safety incidents. Peer reviewed publications. Research grants. Presentation at National / International meetings. Other Requirements
