Lumber Procurement Manager Ontario or Quebec – flexible work location Permanent Full-Time Reference Number: CAN-ON-ACT-206-171224 SUMMARY Reporting to the Vice President, the Lumber Procurement Manager is responsible for assisting in forecasting present and future lumber needs to support the treated lumber programs in Ontario and Quebec and meet customer demand. The Lumber Procurement Manager conducts daily comparisons of a variety of buying options and supply choices, then negotiates pricing and terms beneficial to Doman. The Lumber Procurement Manager is responsible for purchasing lumber for four (4) plants and will facilitate the transfer of products between the plants as needed. EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS Evaluate the lumber market conditions based on industry and mill indicators. Conduct daily inventory analysis to ensure fill rates; for multiple plants receiving products from various mills. Maintain effective working relationships with suppliers. With management, analyze annual supply proposals from vendors. Make purchases of required products and schedule replenishment cycles. Schedule delivery of products to expected locations. Identify products to be transferred from one branch to another instead of purchasing from suppliers. Be familiar with supplier policies relating to claims and manage returns for defective stock. Review purchasing and inventory levels to ensure vendors are punctual. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Minimum three (3) years of purchasing experience. Knowledge of commodity lumber and the lumber market is required. Knowledge of logistics including shipping via truck and rail, demurrage. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Aptitude for details and numerical calculations. Very comfortable with MS Office and have the ability to quickly learn other applications. Knowledge of JD Edwards and QlikView is an asset Excellent English communication skills that display professionalism, good business acumen, and strong business ethics. Able to communicate effectively with internal staff and work in a team-focused environment. Able to work independently. LINGUISTIC REQUIREMENTS Bilingual (French and English) is an asset. EDUCATION High school graduation. Diploma or certificate in business administration or purchasing is an asset.
