An exciting opportunity has arisen to come and work at Dorset County Hospital to join our supportive speech and language therapy team. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic B6 Speech and Language Therapist wishing to develop their skills in ENT, Head and Neck, and cancer. We will also consider applicants who are looking for a B5 developing B6 opportunity within this specialty. Not only will you be part of our dynamic Speech and Language Therapy Team, but you will also benefit from having a role within the much-acclaimed Macmillan Cancer Therapy Team assessing and treating people with communication and swallowing difficulties pre and post cancer treatment. In this rewarding, specialist role, you will gain experience in managing a wide range of ENT and head and neck cancer and develop skills with laryngectomees, including Surgical Voice Restoration. We will provide you with access to peer support, regular 1:1 meetings with the clinical lead speech and language therapist, appraisals, and clinical supervision. We will actively encourage CPD, attendance at the Head & Neck CEN, and training opportunities including developing instrumental assessment skills in videofluoroscopy and FEES as appropriate. Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the Speech and Language Therapy Team providing diagnosis, assessment, treatment, and management to patients with voice and/or swallowing problems secondary to an ENT diagnosis both within an inpatient and outpatient setting. To work as a member of the Macmillan Cancer Therapy Team providing diagnosis, assessment, treatment, and management to patients with communication and/or swallowing problems secondary to a cancer diagnosis for inpatients at Dorset County Hospital. To work with the Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist leading on Speech and Language Therapy specialist provision to patients at Dorset County Hospital referred with ENT/Head and Neck voice, speech, and swallowing disorders. EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

To have a Degree in Speech & Language Therapy recognised by RCSLT. Registered with H.C.P.C. Achieved dysphagia competencies to specialist level. Valid driving licence. Evidence of relevant CPD. EXPERIENCE

Experience in the management of complex communication/swallowing disorders. Have experience in carrying own caseload independently, carrying out assessments & treatment. Experience of working in the area of cancer. Experience in developing & delivering training packages internally & externally to SALT & wider MDT. Experience of supervising staff/students. Experience or an interest in working with voice patients. Experience or an interest in working with laryngectomy patients. SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

To have an understanding of rehab needs across the cancer pathway & living well with cancer. Able to work as part of a specialised MDT. Understanding of ‘End of Life’ pathway within the acute and community setting. Able to deliver complex and sensitive concepts in easily understood language to patients, carers, and staff.
