The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust defines a nurse specialist as a qualified nurse whose primary purpose is to provide guidance and support based on advanced level knowledge to patients, carers, and health professionals concerning a specific disease/condition.

Within the sphere of specialist practice, the nurse specialist: Demonstrates significant advanced knowledge and skills within specialty and sphere of practice. Takes a lead role in facilitating the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients. Supports the development of nursing practice within the specialist field and contributes to the body of nursing knowledge.

As an expert within the specialist area, you will: Lead and provide training and education across the organization in the relevant area of practice. Implement service improvements and ensure the smooth delivery of care through policy development, adherence to procedures, and active involvement in training and mentoring staff.
