An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Breast Care Specialist Nurse to work within the Newcastle Hospitals Breast Care Nursing Service.

We are looking for a Breast Care Nurse who is enthusiastic, progressive and highly motivated to join our busy team in breast screening / surgery. The successful applicant will have significant post-registration experience at a senior nursing level and be driven to improve patient care and patient experience.

You'll provide high-quality physical and psychological care throughout the patient journey - from diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Your role will also include acting as a resource for patients, carers and healthcare professionals, ensuring the delivery of outstanding care.

In addition, you will work with other team members to deliver nurse-led clinics where you will perform clinical examinations and make clinical decisions in line with the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Our Specialist Breast Cancer Specialist Nursing team are central to patients' experience providing them with expert information and guidance, advocacy, care and compassion.

This will include practicing at an advanced level to provide in-depth knowledge on the care pathway and complex needs of patients with breast cancer and will include working clinically with patients and carers from the time of referral to provide specialist nursing advice and practical and psychosocial support including Holistic Assessment and a Personalised care plan.

You will engage in complex conversation and dialogue with patients and carers considering learning needs and Mental Capacity using advanced communication skills.

Act within a team of key workers for patients to ensure continuity during a highly complex patient pathway/journey.

Attend and support sessions for delivery of breaking bad news and follow an agreed pathway, provide written and verbal information, refer to other professionals and signpost to other agencies, ensuring liaison and communication with other relevant professionals.

You will have the opportunity for training in breast examination skills and work autonomously in nurse-led clinics forming part of the self-managed care pathway.

On a day-to-day basis you will be working closely with patients and their families, but also Physicians and the wider MDT team to ensure a superb patient experience.

Within the sphere of specialist practice: Demonstrates significant advanced knowledge and skills within specialty and sphere of practice. Take a lead role facilitating the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients. Support the development of nursing practice within the specialist field and contribute to the body of nursing knowledge. Have corporate identity as an expert within the specialist area. Lead and provide training and education across the organisation in relevant area of practice.
