About the opportunity:
As a Maintenance Engineer for KYN HURLINGHAM, you will be responsible for:
Supporting the Hospitality Manager in creating a safe and well-presented environment whilst consistently delivering an exceptional experience for our residents and their families.
Ensuring the appearance and functional upkeep of the care home, bedrooms, and communal areas involving indoor and outdoor work.
Maintaining all health and safety, compliance checks, and risk assessments.
Responding to maintenance emergencies and performing minor repairs on an on-call basis.
Undertaking all routine maintenance tasks and minor general repair work as requested by the Home Manager.
Maintaining the garden and exteriors.
Checking the maintenance request book for tasks to be completed.
Conducting weekly fire alarm tests and routine checks of fire doors, security doors, and window restrictors.
Performing routine checks of wheelchairs, reclining chairs, and nursing beds.
Taking responsibility for emergency lighting checks and fire alarm tests regularly.
Conducting monthly visual checks of firefighting apparatus, e.g., extinguishers and hydrants, and documenting in line with compliance.
Checking water temperatures of sinks, showers, and baths monthly.
Ensuring water flushing is undertaken in line with risk assessments, KYN policy, and national standards.
Keeping accurate records and electronically sharing them with the Home Manager weekly with support from the administration team.
Cleaning shower heads and waste traps.
Checking water hardness and temperatures within the boiler room and keeping accurate records.
Keeping the water softener topped up with salt.
Fitting shelves and picture hooks in residents’ rooms as requested.
Assisting staff with moving furniture as requested.
Purchasing and collecting consumables, as well as controlling maintenance stock.
Ensuring a supply of matched paint and undertaking redecoration and repair works to the interior and exterior of the building.
Changing light bulbs and cleaning shades as required.
Ensuring that the grounds and car park are free from litter.
Keeping external bin areas clean and tidy.
Reporting to the Home Manager if a particular job falls outside the training/skill of the post holder.
Liaising with trades and contractors working in the homes, including site orientation and overseeing health and safety.
Being responsible for the health and safety of residents, visitors, and staff and reporting any hazards or potential hazards to the person in charge.
Supporting the Life Enriching Activity Lead/Life Enriching Activity Coordinators in implementing a whole home approach to the provision of meaningful occupation for all residents.
Being flexible to work in several KYN Homes, supporting other maintenance personnel and covering holiday periods.
Being available during out of normal working hours.
Carrying out the physical demands of the job safely.
Adhering to KYN’s policies and procedures.
About you:
Experience in a similar role with a good understanding of building services including heating, hot and cold-water distribution, ventilation, electrical distribution, plumbing, gardening, painting, and decorating.
A professional who understands the importance of maintaining high standards – working to statutory requirements and compliance to ensure our residents enjoy a safe and comfortable environment.
A friendly and approachable team player with the ability to troubleshoot when necessary.
Basic health and safety qualifications or working knowledge.
A full, clear UK Driving Licence.
