The role of a Mammographer is to provide and maintain a high standard of mammography for all patients and clients attending for breast imaging. Responsibilities include: Performing all mammography examinations to the highest standard with precision and speed in line with the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) guidelines. Using relevant knowledge, clinical experience, and departmental protocols to select the appropriate mammographic projections and exposures. Participating in the updating of procedures and protocols to reflect changes in practice. Evaluating mammography images to assess diagnostic quality and adequacy. Adhering to departmental protocols and procedures including Ionising Radiation Regulations (2017) and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (2017). Undertaking vetting of mammography requests for symptomatic and family history patients. Actively participating in equipment quality control and safety checks. Undertaking clinical duties in accordance with the service staffing rota. Performing assessment mammography and providing technical and clinical assistance in all mammographic interventional procedures. Providing professional support, guidance, and leadership to less experienced members of staff. Ensuring a high level of environmental quality is achieved by maintaining cleanliness and tidiness. Critically appraising quality standards of mammography to ensure a high-quality diagnostic service. Participating in service audit and presentation of associated findings to peer group. Always maintaining an efficient workflow in all areas of the service. Person Specification
Qualifications Essential BSc (Hons) Radiography degree/Diploma of the College of Radiographers equivalent. HCPC Registered. Personal indemnity insurance or membership of the Society of Radiographers. Desirable Willingness to undertake PG Certificate. Postgraduate Certificate of Competence in Mammography. Experience Essential Post qualification radiography experience. Evidence of continuing Professional Development. Understanding of IRMER and IRR 2017. Desirable Understanding of breast services. Mammography experience post qualification. Mammography experience in the Breast Screening Service or a Symptomatic Breast Service. Knowledge & Skills Essential Computer Literate. Good oral and written communication skills. Good decision-making skills. Motivational skills. Counselling skills. Desirable Knowledge/understanding of the principles of audit. Knowledge of CRIS/NBSS.
