About this opportunity:
Direct global Packaging Sciences group comprising scientists and technicians providing expertise and services in: technical support and complaint resolution; pack testing and materials qualification; analytical services, microbiology and hygiene testing.
Main Responsibilities:
Technical Support
Direct and develop technical support function in Wantage and Tinley labs
Achieve resolution of manufacturing issues and customer/consumer complaints by applying knowledge and experience of the team
Develop team and expertise to provide clear added value
Drive progression from reactive support to preventative problem solving
Materials Qualification
Via application of rigorous pack testing and other predictive tests, reduce the risk of failure and improve speed-to-market of new materials
Drive development of more robust and timely testing regimes
Guide application and use of Crown Materials Database to ensure qualification of materials is conducted and recorded diligently
Analytical Services
Direct and develop Analytical Lab functions
Develop team and expertise to provide clear added value
Oversee the evaluation of new equipment / techniques to provide value to Crown
Hygiene and Microbiology
Set and monitor standards for hygiene testing and auditing across relevant Crown products and plants
Ensure expertise and knowledge of food safety, can spoilage and good hygienic manufacturing practice is maintained and developed
Area manager/Lab Warden: Bev Hall and Science Laboratories
Set targets and standards for world class laboratory and pilot plant facilities
Empower area wardens to deliver a safe and organised, fit-for-purpose working environment
Monitor and challenge standards to drive continuous improvement
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Degree in chemistry or materials science or equivalent experience in the packaging industry
Expert knowledge of metal packaging (materials used, manufacturing processes, failure modes and corrective actions)
Good understanding of methods of materials characterisation and analysis, and statistical analysis methods
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Beneficial Education, Experience, Skills (not required):
Higher degree in relevant subject
6σ Black Belt
Knowledge of food microbiology, hygiene, food chemistry and corrosion in food and beverages
Experienced project manager
Knowledge of Crown, Crown’s operations and customer processes
