Goal The Manager Refrigeration and Energy – Europe is responsible for leading refrigeration and energy efficiency initiatives across our European operations. This role ensures the effective operation and maintenance of refrigeration systems, promotes energy-saving measures, and supports Americold's commitment to sustainability and operational excellence. Key responsibilities Develop and oversee refrigeration maintenance programs to ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations. Drive energy efficiency projects, identifying opportunities to reduce costs and environmental impact across European facilities. Collaborate with site teams and contractors to execute planned maintenance, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. Implement best practices in refrigeration system performance, leveraging emerging technologies and industry advancements. Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex refrigeration system issues, providing expert guidance to resolve problems. Manage relationships with contractors, vendors, and suppliers, ensuring service quality and cost-effectiveness. Support capital projects by providing technical expertise on refrigeration and energy requirements. Monitor and analyse energy usage data, creating reports and actionable insights to drive continuous improvement. Stay updated on regulatory changes and ensure all facilities comply with local and international refrigeration and energy standards. Promote a culture of safety, sustainability, and operational excellence across all levels of the organization. Required experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 8–10 years of experience managing large-scale industrial refrigeration systems, with a focus on maintenance and energy efficiency. Strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems, including safety and compliance requirements. Proven experience in leading energy-saving initiatives and sustainability programs. Proficiency in analysing technical data and preparing detailed reports. Experience working in a multi-site or regional role, ideally within the cold storage or logistics sector. Preferred qualifications Exceptional problem-solving skills with a proactive and hands-on approach to technical challenges. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Knowledge of European energy efficiency regulations and sustainability standards. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with budget management and cost-control practices related to refrigeration and energy.
