As a subject matter expert, the post holder will take a lead on providing advice across the trust and lead a training programme for department Risk Assessors. Main Duties of the Job
The Manual Handling and Ergonomics Advisor will provide concise, timely, and impartial advice, guidance, and support to managers and staff to ensure the effectiveness of the Trust's arrangements for promoting safe handling and work activities. As a subject matter expert, the post holder will lead the trust towards compliance with legislation specifically Manual Handling Operations and Display Screen Equipment Regulations. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of the Manual Handling section of the health and safety action plan and will work with specialist leads to develop a standardised approach to delivering Manual Handling related tasks in the Trust. The post holder will also be responsible for the design, delivery, implementation, and evaluation of the manual handling risk assessment training programme across the trust and will work alongside the Head of Health & Safety Services to further develop the requirements. Qualifications and Training
Registered nurse or allied health professional - physiotherapist/occupational therapist Accredited key trainers programme Recognised qualification in teaching or training and development Recognised moving and handling or ergonomics qualification, postgraduate level (or working towards) Knowledge and Experience
Current manual handling management and advisory experience Experience of designing, delivering, and evaluating training Clear communicator and negotiator both internally and externally Highly specialised knowledge of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations Experience of moving and handling risk management Specialised knowledge of workplace musculoskeletal health issues, current best practice guidance, and healthcare standards Experience of specialist moving and handling activities including those specific to the plus-sized patient group and bariatric management Supervisory experience Flexibility on hours as role demands Flexibility on travelling between sites as role demands Skills and Abilities
Proven knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and best practice Knowledge and understanding of current NHS risk management issues including CQC/NHS Litigation Authority standards Able to identify training and development needs and facilitate the design of appropriate solutions to meet those needs Well developed and demonstrable communication skills/influencing skills, both oral and written Able to build and maintain constructive partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders Ability to manage varied and complex workload balancing strategic with operational requirements Personal initiative and drive to deliver and exceed Innovative, motivated, and adaptable Confident leader, able to gain commitment from staff and other colleagues Disclosure and Barring Service Check
