West Special Fasteners are looking for a Manual/CNC machinist apprentice to complete a Level 3 machinist technician apprenticeship and join their team. The candidate will operate a variety of machines to perform assigned tasks. They will produce or repair precision parts using both manual and automated equipment and accurate measurements. Role & Responsibilities: Review samples, drawings, or instructions to understand specifications of output Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job Select appropriate machines (e.g. lathes) and position or load material for a job Determine and program the size of batches, speed of machine, etc. Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature, and identify issues Check output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects Keep records of approved and defective units or final products Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages You will produce precision parts using manual and automated machines Use of ERP system to record completed processes A machinist must be proficient in all aspects of CNC machining, including milling, turning, close-tolerance manufacturing, and more. Proficiency in CAD software would be a great advantage. A machinist must also possess excellent attention to minute details, especially when taking measurements before beginning work. Skills Required: Problem solving Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated, or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, etc.) Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers) to take accurate measurements Good at maths with analytical abilities Physical stamina and strength as some lifting is required Personal Qualities: Willingness to learn and follow instruction Effective communication and listening Willingness to give and receive constructive feedback Punctuality, attendance, and time management West Special Fasteners are manufacturers of stainless steel and nickel alloy special fasteners. Things to Consider: During the first year, you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full-time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training, you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job. Please note the AMRC Training Centre reserves the right to close applications ahead of the published closing date. of the following: GCSE English language C or 4 or above GCSE Maths C or 4 or above Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
